Research on the value of ideological and political education among college students, as one of the main components of the research in the value of the ideological and political education, means to research from the perspective of value into the ideological and political education among college students which not only meets the needs of the all-around development of contemporary college students, but also the theoretical development of the value of the ideological and political education among college students and the improvement of the effects of the ideological and political education in institutions of higher learning.The first chapter mainly touches on the connotation of the value and the relevant concepts of the ideological and political education among college students. The value of the ideological and political education among college students is termed as the effect relationship between the value object, namely, the ideological and political education among college students, and the value subjects, namely, college students, in which the needs of the college students are satisfied, guided and improved. The value of the ideological and political education among college students is divided, according to different standards, as social value, group value and individual value; positive value and negative value; orientation value, motivation value, norm value and regulation value. The elements of the value of the ideological and political education among college students refers to such as the value subject, the value object, contents of the value and norms of the value, which make up the basics of the value relationship of the ideological and political education among college students.The second chapter expounds on the theoretical basis of the ideological and political education among college students. It is hold that the research into the value of the ideological and political education among college students is based, theoretically, on Marxism, including the Marxist theory of all-round development of human beings, the Marxist theory of value and the Marxist theory of needs. The Marxist theory of all-round development of human beings, which guides the aims of the ideological and political education, is mainly composed of the connotation of all-round development of human beings, the conditions in which all-round development of human beings is achieved and its theoretical evolution.The Marxist theory of value, which lays fundamental basis for the ideological and political education among college students, includes the connation of value, the subject and the object of value, the fundamental way to realize value being practice and the two scales of value assessment.The Marxist theory of needs, which directs the theoretical basis of the research into the needs of the subject of value, consists of the needs of a whole person and those of a person as a social beings, the needs of human beings being the human nature, the hierarchy of needs and the social and historic nature of needs.The third chapter focuses on the basic contents of the value of the ideological and political education among college students, the research of which, as the core of this dissertation, works as a connecting link between the preceding parts and the parts that follow. It is believed that the value of the ideological and political education among college students lies in the spiritual guidance it plays in the needs of college students, in which the needs of college students are satisfied, guided and improved. But what are the specific spiritual needs that can be satisfied by the ideological and political education? As far as college students are concerned, belief and faith which help college students with their physical and mental development in a harmonious way, national spirit and zeitgeist which help them with their own harmonious development between themselves and the nation, the society as a whole, civic virtues which helps them with their own harmonious development with others, and general competence which serves as the basis to promote the harmonious development of all the forms of relationship, are the necessities for them to become socialized and to be able to handle, properly, with relationship in various forms. The basic contents of the value of the ideological and political education among college students are divided as the following four aspects, namely, the erection value of belief and faith, the cultivation value of national spirit and zeitgeist, the formation value of civic virtues and the improvement value of general competence, each of which, as the sub-system of the value of the ideological and political education among college students, is made up of their own elements.The author, in the fourth chapter, expounds on how the value of the ideological and political education among college students is realized. The realization of the value of the ideological and political education among college students refers to the satisfying, guiding and improving of their needs in the positive cycle of the functions of education in which unity of opposites find their way everywhere. Diversity, retardation and difficulty in quantization are the main features of the realization of the value of the ideological and political education among college students. From the viewpoint of the subject of value, it is a process in which the object becomes the subject and vice versa, while from the viewpoint of the object of value, it is a process in which the value of the object becomes from invisible to visible. In a broad sense, the realization of the value of the ideological and political education goes through three stages, namely, the internalization of theories, the guidance and the practice of theories and the assessment and feedback. In a narrow sense, it goes through two stages, namely, the internalization of theories and the guidance and the practice of theories. The chapter, adopting the narrow sense, divides the realization of the ideological and political education among college students into three sections of understanding, identification and application. It is in view of this that we believe that the ideological and political education among college students should be carried out, provided with necessary guarantees of both physical and spiritual conditions, from the three aspects of theory studying, social practice activities and self-education.It is in the fifth chapter that the assessment of the value of the ideological and political education among college students finds its way. Its value has already been proved both in theories and practice. However, the realization of the value, to be more specific, in which aspects and how, needs to be judged by assessment of the value. The assessment refers to the process in which subjects of assessment evaluate, in accordance with certain norms, the effects of the ideological and political education plays in the development of college students. To achieve a scientific and objective assessment, scientific ways and approaches should be chosen; objective and reasonable systems of assessment should be planned and carried out in accordance with standards on the basis of certain assessment theories. The effects the ideological and political education produces over college students cannot be directly observed, but seen by analyzing the relationship between the behavioral change of college students and the cause and effect relationship of the ideological and political education. The basic ways to obtain data includes survey research, field word, experiment study and literature review. The design of the evaluation indicators system which includes indicators, rating scales and weight, is the key to the whole assessment. It is also pointed out that the sequence of examining the qualification of the subjects of assessment, gathering information, assessing in different stages and reaching the results of assessment should be strictly followed to make sure the assessment is implemented according to the procedures of establishing the aims and standards, formulating plans, carrying out assessment activities, summarizing assessment results and feedbacks.In conclusion, fixing as the logic starting point the defining of the connotation of the value of the ideological and political education among students, this dissertation focuses on the basic content of the value of the ideological and political education among students and put forward, in the end, appropriate measures of designing and implementation for the indicator system of the assessment of the value of the ideological and political education among students.
