In the early 1700s, Tylor's formulation that high compensation can improve satisfaction became the initiative work on "satisfaction" research. It also led the quite spectacular "satisfaction" research climax after the industrial revolution. In the late 1920s, Hawthorne laboratory sprang up which opened up a new road for behavior science research, and constructed a new management theoretical framework and new philosophical ideas for western management. Meanwhile, it put forward new management theories against the traditional, to get a conclusion that the employee mood is determinant to improve labor productivity and job satisfaction. Following this, an American scholar, Hoppock (1935) and Chinese scholars Xu Lian-cang ect.(1978), started their effective satisfaction research successively.With the arrival of the 21st century, human society has entered a new historical period, characterised with internationalization and informationization. Humankind is more aware that "whoever grasps the education will win the strategic initiative in the international competition through the 21st century ".Who can we look to for the development of education in the 21 st century? The key factor is the teacher.As the saying goes, teachers are those who has been conveying truth, instructing technical abilities, resolving doubts. They hold the most glorious job under the sun. They are lauded as the "hard-working gardeners"," candles that burn themselves to illuminate others", "the engineer of the human soul" etc. The group is related to the future destiny of a country and the people. However, what their life and working status are, as to such a great, holy and ordinary occupational group.This study attempts to expound on the topic "college teachers'job satisfaction", and in a logical, deductive way of "reviewing and combing—reflecting and criticizing—constructing and surmounting—practicing and applying—reacting and proposing. It targets Urumqi, western multi-ethnic areas, the beautiful and mysterious frontier town as the study case, using quantitative and qualitative research approaches.Internationalization, the rapid social transformation and Western Development strategy have brought a lot of new opportunities for Xinjiang higher education. In Xinjiang, higher education has moved from marginal position to the core of society, becoming the origin of the information society. This study is based on the development of higher education of Xinjiang, starting with the analysis of the demand of Xinjiang university faculty, taking "demand" as a key and entrance for the research to interpret the reality of contemporary universities faculty's job satisfaction in Xinjiang. In the study, interpretation and explanation for "job satisfaction", "faculty", the meaning of "university faculty's job satisfaction", the theoretical basis, influence factor structure and common measuring tool are made respectively, so as to search the theory of university faculty's job satisfaction, mainly including its contents, features, the value and influencing factors, etc. On the basis of that, this paper refers and absorbs relevant research results at home and abroad, considering the characteristics of the work of university faculty and the influencing factors of university faculty's job satisfaction, and formulates the "university faculty's job satisfaction scale".1558 teachers have been randomly selected to be questionnaire and 32 teachers have been take the survey by means of interview. These teachers come from six different full-time undergraduate education universities in Urumqi city of Xinjiang. By analysing and discussing the results of the study, the author pertinently provides reference and proposal to the state, Xinjiang local government and universities as to higher education policy; meanwhile, the paper provides strong support to university faculty in their physical, mental health development and their career development. In order to construct the higher educational cause, to improve the higher education quality of Xinjiang and to promote the nation's development, more efforts should be paid, which has strategic significance and realistic significance as well.This paper is composed of the introduction and six parts,7 chapters in total. The framework is as following:introduction mainly includes background and motivation of the theme, reviewing the research history and current situation, indicating the aim, the significance, the content and the assumptions of the study, as well as research methods and technical route. The first chapter of this research mainly discusses the basic definitions, conceptions about the theme, introducing the "need", "motivation" and "inspiration" three theoretical basis. In the second chapter the author reviews the university faculty's job satisfaction theory mainly including the connotation of the "university faculty's job satisfaction", its contents, features, the value and influencing factors. The third chapter presents research methods and design scheme on the university faculty's job satisfaction, including the questionnaire and interview outline scale's designing, forming, forecasting, modifying and generating steps. In the fourth chapter the research results on university faculty's job satisfaction are analyzed and discussed. In the fifth chapter the author raises the prerequisites contributing to improve university faculty's job satisfaction targeting universities in Xinjiang. In the last chapter the author attains to the research conclusion, anticipates the prospect of research, the study's limitations and gives proposals about subsequent research on the basis of the prophase research achievements.
