A Social,Historical And Cultural Studies On Grotshang Tibetan Tribes

Grotshang Tibetan area is located in Huangshui River basin. It was one of the southern part of the famous West Silk Road in history, which made it a communications center from where people traveled from the interior areas of China to Tibet,Central Asia and even some European countries, connecting Asia and Europe as a bridge. Obviously, its strategic position is also very important. The Huangshui River Basin where Grotshang is located is a place to be fought for during war times and a place for businessmen to meet during peaceful times where different cultures collide and blend. The Tibetan people living there have absorbed the cultures of the neighboring nationalities and created the Grotshang Tibetan culture with unique regional features. Compared with the other Anduo Tibetan tribes, Grotshang Tibetan tribe is typical in keeping and sticking to its traditional cultures.This dissertation focuses on the national history and social cultures of Zhuocang Tibetan tribes. Having fully absorbed the relevant research results of academia and based on the historic documents and field research materials, the article systematically reflects the characteristics of the Grotshang Tibetan tribes in its origins,politics,economy,culture,language,religion and customs by using the research methods in ethnology,history,politics and sociology. We believe the social,historic and cultural study of Grotshang Tibetan tribes will contribute to expanding the scope of Anduo Tibetan cultural research,deepening the contents of its research and serve to construct a harmonious Tibetan area. At the same time, the study is also the urge of this era to carry forward and develop traditional Tibetan cultures.This dissertation consists of two parts:Introduction and body. The introduction fully explains the background and reason for choosing the topic and the significance of this study. It also involves the present conditions,the approaches and process of the research and some definitions on the relevant concepts.The body consists of eight chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces circumstances of Grotshang Tibetan tribes. The second chapter mainly talks about the origins,the development trends in different historical periods,main historical events and features of Grotshang Tibetan tribes. The third chapter depicts and analyzes its political system and social,economic situations in history; The fourth chapter probes into its marriage and family system; The fifth chapter centers on Tibetan culture, elaborating on its language,literature,arts and sports; The sixth chapter gives a comprehensive discussion on the monastery education and Confucian education in this area and put forward some ideas on the current bilingual education there.; The seventh chapter is an explanation of the changes and development of Tibetan Buddhism,monasteries,religious sects and the local beliefs in this area. The final chapter presents an overall illustration of the customs in this area.
