In the new historical period, it is significant to rethink the development path of China's competitive sports from a new perspective of building soft power. In the dissertation, such research methods as literatures, case analysis and expert interview are used. Beginning with the concept and the theory of soft power, the conclusions are as follows:Soft power is defined as the ability of a country to use its non-dominant, non-coercive power to attract, influence or persuade other countries, in order to achieve the country's identity, make the other countries do what they are desired, and ultimately achieve the country's desired objectives. Soft power and hard power together constitute the overal] national strength, which both relate mutually and oppose mutually as a contradiction. Adapting to the requests of identifying with the value of post-modern society, with the idea of people-oriented, competition of soft power has become a new type of competition.China's soft power has achieved the progress in cultural communication, conception evolution, development model, foreign policy and national image. But there are still some problems such as imbalance between soft power and hard power, imbalance in the internal structures of soft power, and the cognitive dissonance between multiple attributes of soft power and the main issues. The development of China's soft power can enhance the comprehensive national strength, achieve sustainable development, raise its international status and relieve international pressure. It is significant and unique for competitive sports to build and promote the national soft power.Reviewing the history of Chinese competitive sports, its effects on building the national soft power has been gradually enhanced, and the Beijing Olympic Games is a typical case. The status quo of Chinese competitive sports is as follows:In value achievement, much greater emphasis has been taken on the internal than on the external of soft power by China's competitive sports. In strategic objectives, the focus is taken on the gold medals in the formulation of development objectives, and it is lack of specialized planning on how to strengthen the external influence of competitive sports. In the future, specific measures such as different level strategic objectives, multi-implementation, international communication strategies and rationalizing allocation of resources are adopted to change the current situation. There are three elements that restrict the development of soft power of China's competitive sports, which are China's historical development stage, sports development factors, especially the core value of "Champions", and evolution of the sports cultural notion that has not been completed. The general principle of China's competitive sports development is to set up the development mechanisms not only in line with China's national conditions but also with the international situation in the framework of building the national soft power, which will promote comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development of China's competitive sports.China is now in the process of pre-modern, modern and post-modern crossed, it is essential to strengthen soft power of China's competitive sports to realize the objectives of changing from a major sports country to a world sports power. Although the soft and hard competitiveness should both be enhanced, it will be focused on intangible resources, achieving soft competitive advantage, which will create attractiveness in the future. There are internal and external means to promote potential soft power of China's competitive sports transforming into real soft power. In the international communication and interaction, as the actor of influence, China's dissemination should be related with other countries'demands if they are demanded to identify with China's behavior and values as the receivers of influence. |
