Without a doubt, human beings are all dominated by habits. Whether we like it or not, various habits are permeating into every aspect of our lives. However, few people realize the power of strong habits, exercise habits are no exception. At present, the studies of exercise habit have two major shortcomings. First, there are no systematic studies present on the concept, characteristics and issues, such as measurement tools, of exercise habit; second, the existing studies do not reflect the motility and initiative nature of exercise habit, which prevents intervention merely focused on one particular aspect or another. To solve these problems, the current study firstly explores college students'exercise habits'characteristics. Also, based on these concepts and features, a conceptual model is established. The Exercise Habit Scale was also developed to measure university students'physical exercise habits. Based on self-determination theory, the researcher specifies three basic needs (autonomy, competence, and relatedness) and design three experiments and one case study to intervene the exercise habit on the educational aspect. The current study reaches the following conclusions:(1) Exercise Habit is a positive, relatively stable, automated behavior setting and thinking model that refers to a particular context, through repeated practice exercise in the particular context. Exercise habit has the characteristics of stability, repeatability, automation and having positive effects.(2) The Exercising Habit Scale contains 26 items which include three subscales on exercise behavior, thinking model and effect of exercise. The internal consistency reliability for each subscales are 0.747. The three factor structure of the Exercising Habit Scale was confirmed by analyzing the structural model,χ2/df=2.571, CFI=0.946, TLI=0.928, RMSEA=0.058, FI=0.947. Most indicators have reached the scale of the psychometric requirements of the basic exercise habits of college students for the measurement and research.(3) The application for the current study recommend that, from the aspects of competence, relatedness, and autonomy, as a starting point to positive emotional experience as the intermediary, the educational intervention should be done in exercise habit to strengthen the dominant position of students and inspire students to exercise warm, and eventually develop good exercise habits.3.1 In terms of competence needs, moderate-intensity exercise, task orientation, setting the secondary goal difficulty, help college students develop the exercise habit better than the others.3.2 The needs in the relatedness, exercise in a group situation, a higher degree of social adaptation in a sport, help college students develop the exercise habit much better than the others.3.3 In terms of the autonomy, different levels of motor skills and after-class support, has significant results on the formation of the exercising habit. The effect of the After-class support is better than no after-class support; there are significant differences in effect between the two groups. The effect of the high level of motor skills, full independent learning is better than the online self-access support and semi-guided learning. The effect of the moderate level of motor skills, semi-guided learning has better effect than the online self-access support and full independent learning; The effect of the low level of motor skills, semi-guided learning are better than the online self-access support and full independent learning; online self-access learning has no significant difference among these.3.4 The factors of environmental setting and physiology and psychology on the students develop the habit of physical exercise have the comprehensive interaction. A harmonious environment, with a certain level of physical fitness and motor skills, plus a positive emotional experience, all contribute to the forming exercise habit.
