The modes and approaches of teacher development have diversities and different effects related with the teacher education. The thesis considers that the self-directed development of teachers is the optimal mode with the meaning of the sustainable development of the teachers.Self-directed development is regarded as the lifestyle of teachers, therefore, the teachers who choose the lifestyle of self-directed development become a kind of special social existence, which can be described and indicated as an economical concept, "development extreme". Thus, the phenomenon of teacher development extreme is the focus of the study.In daily life, the phenomenon of teacher development extreme appears and exists in a way of the performance of educationists, special-grade teachers, famous teachers and excellent teachers. People only wonder this kind of social existence in presentation level as follows, "what are they" and "what have they done", while such issues as "why do they do like that", "why can they do so" and "what does this kind of lifestyle mean" have not been discussed sufficiently. More teachers pursuing self-directed development are needed in this kind of changing era. If we reveal the principle of embryology for teachers' self-directed development, according to it, more and more teachers would become self-directed development teachers. The significance of teachers' self-directed development lies in that the lifestyle can give a new significance to the life of teacher as an individual and to the existence of teacher as a professional. On basis of such faith, the thesis regards the significance of life and the existence value of individual teacher as starting point, and aims to improve teacher education, which makes more teachers realize the sustainable development.The thesis focuses on the principle of embryology for teachers'self-directed development by the illustration of the phenomenon of teachers' self-directed development extreme, and probes into the related factors to teachers' self-directed development, such as influential elements, causes, environment, track and application of the principle of embryology for teachers' self-directed development.The thesis consists of the introduction and six chapters. The introduction introduces the content, method and significance of the study. In chapter one, the meaning of teachers' self-directed development is analyzed. In chapter two, the influential factors of teachers' self-directed development are inquired. In chapter three, the related conditions for teachers' self-directed development by the inquiry into the relation between teachers' self-development and development environment are analyzed. In chapter four, the track of teachers' self-directed development and the cause of teachers' self-development according to the track are probed. In chapter five, the model of teachers' self-directed development is constructed, and the principle of embryology for teachers' self-directed development is revealed by the analysis on the interaction mechanism of the three factors for the model of teachers' self-directed development. In chapter six. the model for the cultivation of teachers who realize the self-directed development is conceived.The remarkable achievement of the study includes two aspects as follows: Firstly, the achievement in theory is to reveal the principle of the embryology for teachers' self-directed development.Although the phenomenon of teachers' self-directed development is a kind of social existence, the principle of self-directed development is still an insoluble mystery. The people can't explain the fundamental cause for the presentation that teachers who pursue self-directed development act as scholars or researchers. In the thesis, teachers who act as researchers are regarded as self-directed development teachers, whether the diversion can realize depends on the reveal of the embryological mechanism forteachers' self-directed development.
