It is a fact that the qualities of rural teachers should be developed. Meanwhile, it is a logical hypothesis for making plans for training department from different levels. In fact, rural teachers are facing to more and more criticizes from this society. Some criticizes even hurt the rural education. Due to the lack of right to speak, it is hard to know the real conditions and views of rural teachers.Five rural teachers in elementary school are selected as objects. Through the research, researcher hopes to show their conditions and problems using the narrative inquiry. In fact, the problems are influenced by various factors, not just personal factor. Finding the potential factors from social, cultural and economic aspects is a distinguish feature for qualitative research, which can not be done by quantitative research. Due to the limitations of qualitative research, researcher does not suggest to utilizing the findings from the research to other researches. But the method might be referred in other researches. Researcher hopes to show original conditions of rural teachers to the public. At the same time, this research is regarded an activity to focus the five rural teachers in order to rebuild the confidence for them.This dissertation is consisted by Introduction, five Chapters and Conclusion.In the Introduction, the cultural background, social background and necessity of this research are introduced briefly.In Chapter 1, the reasons to select this topic, the current situations of the research, the foundation of theory and research plan are examined.In Chapter 2, the living and working environment and the process of selecting rural teachers are introduced. Meanwhile, researcher makes self-examination for natural identity and professional identity.In Chapter 3, the self-directed development and teacher education are regarded as two ways to enhance the professional development for rural teachers.In Chapter 4, the professional identity and personal identity are considered as the original conscious for self-directed development.In Chapter 5, the different actions of five rural teachers are showed. In the Conclusion, findings, limitations and further research are showed. Three findings are followed. First, rural teachers are lack of right to speak out what they want to say in the society. Second, self-directed development is a pragmatic reason for rural teachers. Third, social attention can promote the self-identify for rural teachers.
