Agriculture is the base on which to build up our nation. For thousand years agricultural production has been developing in our motherland and nourishing the Chinese nation. Even though rising and falling alternatively, agriculture has been keeping progress in the long course of the history. It created Chinese ancient culture and ethics, material progress and civilization. It also made great contribution to the world civilization progress. In the course of the Chinese ancient agricultural progress, agricultural education played very important roll. From Shengnongshi and Houji teaching people how to grow crops on, agriculture gradually made progress in the following dynasties and formed its unique regime, rich content and special method. Ancient agricultural education is the major force which propels the Chinese agriculture forward. But for long time in the field of agricultural history and educational history, ancient agricultural education has not reached a fairly comprehensive and in-depth study, whatever in quality or in quantity. It can not match the level the progress of ancient agriculture and education. Based on the Marxist epistemology and historic materialism, respecting history and truth, the paper uses the methods of analyzing and synthesizing, history combining logic. Through the comprehensive study, it sorts out the line of ancient agricultural education in China. The conclusion is we should carry forward the outstanding achievements of ancient agricultural education to promote modern agricultural education.The paper consists of eight parts.Part 1. Introduction This part mainly explains the background, purpose, current situation and instruction of the study. It also explains the way of thinking and brings forth new ideas in research.Part 2. Survey of ancient agricultural education in China This part mainly defines the connotation and characteristics of ancient agricultural education in China. It also explains the ways, methods, contents and instruction of Chinese ancient agricultural education.Part 3. Origin of ancient agricultural education in China This part mainly states thatancient agricultural education in China stems from agricultural production. Through analyzing Shennong, Houji, ShangJun Shu, Lu Shi Chun Qiu, and other agricultural books, it concludes that Xia, Shang, Zhou, Spring and Autumn Worries period is the rudimental period of ancient agricultural education in China. Emergence of educator, student, relatively focusing on educational contents and fixed place for education marks the rudimental period.Part 4. Forming of ancient agricultural education in China West Han and East Han dynasties is the forming period of ancient agricultural education in China. The part discusses the ideological foot, social condition, major motive force and fundamental science and technology for agricultural education. Through analyzing Guan Zi, Zhao Guo, Fan Sheng Zhi Shu, Si Min Yue Ling and other agricultural books, some agronomists on agricultural education, It states that in West Han and East Han dynasties agricultural science and technology made great progress, such as soil and tillage, drainage and irrigation, farm implements, crop cultivation, gardening, silkworm raising and mulberry growing, environment and ecology, agricultural economics and management.Part 5 Expending of ancient agricultural education in China Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern period, Sui and Tang Dynasties is the period of expending of ancient agricultural education in China. Agriculture Educational book of Qi Min Yao Shu which has relatively complete content, Lei Si Jing, Cha Jing and other agricultural books, establishment of school for veterinary medicine in Tang dynasty marked the period of expending of ancient agricultural education in China.
