As two main sorts of inhabit forms in human society, the cities and the villages are different while closely related at the same time. In the process of building a modernized country, the differences between the cities and the villages, commonly regarded as the differences between the most modernized section and the most traditional section in a society, are increasingly magnified by the speedy changes in social and economic areas. Nowadays, many developing countries are in the awkward predicament, where the modernized metropolis and the underdeveloped villages coexist, opposed and developing toward different directions. A country cannot achieve modernization without either the modernization of agriculture and village or the harmonious relationships between the cities and the villages. So in this thesis, I attempt to investigate on the relationships between the cities and the villages in the process of modernization of our country. On the basis of theory and practice, I try to discuss how to construct the harmonious city-village relationship effectively, which is beneficial to boost the progress of modernization in China.This thesis consists of introduction and text.The introduction part briefly discusses the theoretical significance and the practical values of selecting this topic. It introduces the studies on relations between cities and villages both at home and abroad. This part also includes the main thinking, emphases and difficulties, study methods and the innovation in this thesis.The text includes five parts.The first chapter begins with the conception and theory on relations between the cities and the villages. First of all, this chapter introduces the conception and setting criterion of city, town and village in our country to distinguish the cities from the villages by respective conception. Then it expounds the content of city-village relationship from four aspects: politics, economy, culture and inhabitant relations. It especially presents four phases in the development of the relationship. And it briefly introduces the basic conception of modernization, then points out that it is one of the main content of modernization that country society will transform to city society. It describes the status quo of contemporary relations between the cities and the villages in our country, which is changing from opposite phase to integration phase.
