The MIAO nationality, whose culture lives an age-old history and has abundant connotation, is an important member of the big family of the Chinese nation. The subject which researches MIAO nationality culture has already become an internationally erudition. The culture, which is the crystal of The MIAO nationality people's wisdom, also deeply influence other nations, thus it plays an important role in the whole Chinese traditional culture. In the new century, how to inherit and develop the MIAO nationality traditional culture and how to actualize have nationality and country characteristic modernize path, it is a topic that all circles including the MIAO nationality people and the researchers of MIAO nationality culture need to face together.To The MIAO nationality culture, different subjects have different observation angles and research methods. The ethnology is science what researching the nationality and culture, its comprehension of culture should be the most overall. So, according to the cultural theories of nationality, this text will confer on the MIAO nationality culture and feature from three sides (material civilization, system culture, spiritual civilization).The thesis is totally divided into 5 chapters as follows:Chapter one: The origin and development. According to the historyliterature and the research result of other scholars, this chapter brings forward that the origin and development of the MIAO can be mostly divided into some stages as follows: Origin stage (YAN dynasty, HUANG dynasty to XIA dynasty, SHANG dynasty, XIZHOU, CHUN QIU, ZHANGUO to the period of the MIAO ancestor's life.) Formation stage (QINHAN to TANGSONG, The MIAO nationality develop gradually into a single nation) Development stage (YUAN, MING, QING to before the People's Republic of China) prosperous stage (After the People's Republic of China was set up to now, the MIAO nation economy, society, culture are on the way to Prosperity.) Now, the MIAO nationality is the one in all over the world, in the China, the MIAO nationality people located in the Southwest and Central Plains, many MIAO nationality people located in the GUIZHOU province, which is the half or more to be the total.Chapter 2: Material civilization characteristics. The material characteristic, such as clothing, food, shelter and means of travel, implements of production, is determined by the special existence environment, production and life style. Tracing back to history, the production and life style of MIAO nationality experienced the stages of hunting, collecting, animal husbandry etc., then developed into the higher stage that rely mainly on agriculture, along with hunting, collecting, animal husbandry etc. The material culture such as clothing, food, shelterand means of travel, implements of production etc., also experienced respective development process and had full-bodied nationality characteristic, region characteristic and age characteristic. This chapter is devoted to discussing the MIAO nationality's diet, dress, architecture, communications and transportation and implements of production etc.Chapter 3 : Rules culture characteristics. Nationality theory thought: the human have to form social relations, social substantiality, such as a group, an organization, a class, a stratum, etc, if the human want to be engaged in production life and many kinds of social action. The institutional culture is an important part of the MIAO nationality culture. This chapter mainly discusses the political system the past central dynasties promoted at the MIAO region, the society organization and social system, and the marriage, family, relatives system etc. of the MIAO nationality.Chapter4: Spiritual civilization characteristics. The MIAO nationality has rich and colorful spiritual civilization refer religious belief, literature art, ethic concept, philosophical thinking, value orientation, mode of thinking and aesthetic consciousness etc. Researching to all the spiritual civilization beyond author's power, so, the author choose several aspects to research: religious belief, literature art, ethic concept, philosophical thinking.Chapter5: Comparing MIAO nationality culture with HANnationality culture. If comparing MIAO nationality with the others, it can help me understand fully the MIAO nationality with special experiences and worldwide influence. It's a tentative try to reveal the culture characteristic of MIAO by the way of comparison between MIAO and Han's culture. This chapter carries on a comparative study on the MIAO's culture, mainly from two aspects of the material culture, and spiritual culture.
