This dissertation is initiating an overall and systemetical research in the field ofthe core competence of universities. Theories based on the idea of informationeconomics, game theory, value chain, systematic theory, grey connection theory,neural network and DEA.etc haved been employed by the author in the thesis. Theresearch mainly consists of two aspects: theoretical explanation part and substantialevidence part.The theoretical explanation part involves the definition and connotation of thecore competence of universities and as well its formation and evolution, the appraisalsystem, competitive strategy and its fostering scheme; the substantial evidence partinvolves the comparative analyses, based on the data of W.U.T and other higheruniversities, expounding and proving the theoretical proposals in the above part.andapproaching the concrete measures for how to cultivate the core competence at W.U.T.Concretely, the dissertation is composed of the following seven chapters.Chapter one is the introduction part to present the thesis research background,research purpose and its meaing. The author makes a conclusion of the relatedresearching situation in and abroad, proposing the thesis research contents, researchmethods and its routine.Chapter two employs the basic theories of universities core competence. Startingfrom the definition of core competence, the author reveals the connotation of corecompetence in universities and dissects its characteristics from the multiple angles.Furtherly, the author explores the relation between its consitutional elements, theorganization adjustment and the system factors, and describes the value chain systemof university core competence. Then the author presents the scheme for fostering thecore cmpetecne in university from the thought of value system management. At theend of this chapter, the author sets up a gamble model describing the relation betweenthe research staffs at universities and the related governments, proving the multiplefactors gamble thought between universities, higher school students and market. Chapter three expounds the process of formation and evolution of higher schoolcore competence. In this chapter, the author discusses the formation mechanism andprocess of higher school core competence, revealling its life span characteristics andits formation mechanism at different life span stages. And then the author dissects itsevolutionary process from the aspects of higher school core competence theory andits practice, proposing its formation and evolutionary routine based on the life spantheory.Chapter four deals with the appraisal system of higher school core competence.The author exerts a comparative analysis on the different appraisal standards systemfor the higher school core competence value appraisal, proposed by the Institute ofHigher School and Acadenic Degree and Graduated Education Appraisal; the NetworkBillboard Ranking of China's Higher Schools; and the Institute of Scienciology ofChina's Management Science Research Academy. The author integrates the appraisalsystem of higher school core competitive force on the analytical foundation andexplores the absolute appraisal thought the application of neutral network theory,DEA and the grey connection theory in the appraisal of higher school corecompetitive force.Chapter five elucides the core competence strategies of higher schools. Theauthor firstly discusses the principles of higher school strategy and its concept ofcompetition in higher schools. Then the author tells about the strategy schemehierarchy and its contents, furtherly demonsrating the basic competitive strategyscheme and professional competitive strategy scheme on the basis of corecompetence in higher school. At the end of this chapter, the author focuses on theplanning process, practical process and the controlling process of higher schoolcompetitive strategy on the basis of core competitive force.Chapter six aims at the cultivation of core competence in universities andcolleges. The author initiates the 3-D conditional system for cultivating the corecompetence in higher schools, namely, the strategic conditions, the resourceconditions and the management conditions. Then detailed research has been acquiredto explore the internal and external channels of cultivating the core competence inhigher schools and its cultivation conditions election. After those, the author provides the overall measures of cultivating the core competence in higher schools from theaspects of development target definition, stragetic management strength, harmoniousculture building, individual school character shaping, human resource optimizing andhuman resource mangement innovation etc.Chapter seven is undertaken to the case analyses. Those universities, such asWuhan University, Sichuan University, South China University of Technology,Zhejiang University, NanjingUniversity, Shanghai Transportation University, TongjiUniversity, Nankai University, Tianjin University, Jilin University, Central ChinaUniversity of Science and Technology, Shangdong University, and W.U.T.etc., havebeen employed by the author to be the case data in the thesis. Theories based on theidea of neutral network, grey connection and DEA have been comprehensivelyadopted by the author to propose the measures for cultivating the core competence inWuhan University of Technology.
