The academic evaluation system of faculty is very important in university. It is a fundamental system that plays a guiding role of the conductor's baton. It not only is the foundation of appointment system for university teachers, but also has a profound impact on the quality of academic research. In addition, it also has a great influence on the academic moral and standards. So it is important to study the evaluation system of university teachers in China.Peer review and quantitative evaluation are the two main evaluation methods in practice. Quantitative evaluation started rising on the base of bibliometrics in the middle of the 20th century. The section layer system is an important institution impetus of quantitative evaluation. We can find its rationality in three aspects: firstly, there is a certain degree of relativity between the quantity of academic production and academic ability; secondly, in order to obtain academic priority, academic qualifications and academic recognition, the university teachers try to publish their academic works more quickly than others; thirdly, the accountability system and academic management need quantitative evaluation. In order to activate the loose academic state and overcome the abuses in academic evaluation such as bureaucracy and subjectivism, universities began to adopt quantitative evaluation at the early stage of China reform and opening-up. It was important at that time.Peer review has a long history, and it is based on academic community. It is the most important evaluation method in academic community. There are many problems and disputes in China's academic peer review of university teachers such as the relation between it and quantitative evaluation is reversed.The academic reward system is closely related to academic evaluation system. There are many abuses in China's academic reward system. Too much weight has been given to material incentives and government academic award, but civil academic award has been neglected. Non-academic factors often affect the fairness of academic award.The fact that many serious abuses exist in China's academic system indicates that it has been alienated. The alienation of academic system has its deep social roots. Firstly, the tool rationality is more popular than the value rationality; secondly, modern cultural tragedy put serious mental pressure on university teachers; thirdly, the logical principles in social and economic field dominate the academic field so seriously that it loses its autonomy. So in order to overcome alienation, we should enhance academic autonomy, advocate and gradually implement the institution of academic representative, and perfect the relevant personnel institution arrangements of university.
