A Study On Several Critical Problems In The Cultural Acculturation Of Minority University Students In The Northwest Of China

The minority university students in the northwest of China come to study from small villages to cities, from less developed areas to developed cities, from minority autonomous regions to places with the Han nationality students as the main body, which illustrates the phenomenon of cultural acculturation and changes in anthropology. When they enter into a new environment with a totally different cultural background, they are encountered with a series of problems, such as how to accustom themselves to a new society, a different language and distinct life style etc. All of these, without any doubt, bring great pressures to their life and study.On the basis of the theories of cultural acculturation and changes, the author of the dissertation gives a deep qualitative and quantitive analysis on some aspects of their study and life when the minority university students in the northwest of China are studying in a different cultural background. From different angles, the author, using the interdisciplinary theories of anthropology, pedagogy, psychology and sociology etc., gives a detailed picture of their campus life, which forms the field survey. The author analyzes it carefully and then puts forward the conclusion.The dissertation consists of six parts:In the introduction, the author briefly presents the motive, the assumption and the significance of the study, gives out the definitions of the major terms and introduces the relevant macro-theories and methodologies.In Chapter One, the author analyzes the cultural acculturation in their material life of the university minority student, including their views on their university and the city where their university is located, their adaptability to food, drink and clothing, and their satiability to the economic life.In Chapter Two, the author probes into the cultural acculturation in the level of their behaviors, including their adaptability to the language, their personal relationships and adjustability of religious beliefs in universities.In Chapter Three, the author discusses the cultural acculturation in the level of university students' regulations, including their views on love and marriage, their values on job-hunting and the current situation of their job-pursuing.In Chapter Four, the author in detail describes and analyzes the spiritual cultural acculturation of the minority university students in the northwest of China, which sums up the spiritual essence reflected in the above chapters.In Chapter Five, the author comes up to the conclusion that the cultural acculturation of the minority university students approximately covers the stages of cultural exchange, cultural change and cultural congruence, drawing out the causes that bring about the cultural acculturation in the process of adaptation to another culture of the minority university students in the northwest of China.
