Under the direction of related theories of management science, tourism science, sociology and psychology, this dissertation made the China Import and Export Commodities Fair(Canton Fair) as the example and integrated the statistic analysis results of questionnaire surveys on the social impacts of convention to construct a scale,Social Impact Scale of Convention(SISC),to assess the social impacts of convention and exhibition activities. After constructed and validated the reliability and validity of SISC,the dissertation used confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) of structural equation model to validate the SISC in depth. The results showed that the SISC contained 3 common factors:the personal beneficial perception, community beneficial perception and cost perception, and 9 items. The SISC was proved that it had good reliability and validity. The fit parameters of CFA proved the rationality of SISC and the 3 common factors constitute the SISC.Used the analysis results of questionnaire surveys, the dissertation also found there were 3 clusters in the residents of Canton Fair Sample. At last,it gave some advices to social impacts control of Canton Fair from the view of local residents. The dissertation includes 6 chapters. The first chapter is theoretical frame and mainly introduced the research background, significance and theoretical basis. Chapter two is literature review. In this chapter, the author reviewed the main contents and research methods of the domestic and overseas' convention researches and tourism impacts researches.Chapter 3 is the construction of Social Impact Scale of Convention. The first research goal of chapter 3 was to construct and validate a SISC and the second goal was to assess the effects of independent variances on residents' perceptions.Chapter 4 is the cluster analysis based on the social impact perception of convention. The local residents of Canton Fair Sample was divided into 3 clusters:the cautious supporters concerning the personal benefits(210 persons,29.37%),the positive supporters(197 persons,27.55%) and the cautious supporters concerning the community benefits(308 persons,43.08%).Chapter 5 is the confirmatory factor analysis of SISC.Using a converse methodology in comparison with Chapter 3,this chapter took the results of SISC as the theoretical hypothesis and confirmed the validity of SISC through the process of model construction, model fit, model modification and model interpretation.Chapter 6 is the social impacts control of convention and exhibition.Based on the soft system methodology, the author gave some advices to Canton Fair to control its social impacts from the view of local residents in this chapter.Chapter 7 is conclusion and discussion. It concluded the main findings and the limitations of the dissertation and pointed out the outlook of the related research.
