Since the reform and opening up, China's economic development has made remarkable achievements. GDP share of the world rose from 1.75% in 1978 to 7.14% in 2008. However, urban development has long been the center of the traditional urban-rural development model, and it lets to the imbalance between urban and rural areas. At the same time, it strengthens the position of agriculture in a weak industry. Urban-rural gap is general in China. But urban-rural income gap in the western region is significantly higher than in the eastern, northeastern and central regions. In this paper, empirical analysis and normative analysis, qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, regional analysis and time series analysis, comparative analysis and case analysis are used to describes the status of urban and rural market integration in the western region. The paper uses time-series data, cross-sectional data and panel data, analyzed urban and rural market integration in the western region, the eastern, northeastern and central regions. It is important to promote the integrated development of urban and rural markets, and improve the income of farmers.This study includes six aspects. Firstly, it is the theoretical analysis of urban and rural market integration. In the section, scientific definition of urban and rural, urban and rural integration, market integration, and content integration of urban and rural markets are introduced. It is the theoretical foundation for the study of integration. Secondly, it is the comparative study of urban and rural integration. The western region's economic growth and the urban-rural integration in the western are analyzed. Thirdly, it is the analysis of urban and rural market integration in the western. Buiding evaluation index system of urban and rural labor, goods market integration, emphasizing analysis the integration of urban and rural labor markets, financial markets and commodity markets in the western. Fourthly, it is the analysis of the factors of restricting the urban and rural market integration in the western. The paper proposes that the lag of industrialization and urbanization led to the slow development of urban and rural market integration in the western. Fifthly, it is the empirical analysis effects of urban and rural market integration in the urban-rural income gap. Sixthly, it is the analysis of path of urban and rural market integration in the western. Based on the improving the system of support, speeding up integration of urban and rural infrastructure, enhancing the city agglomeration function, and accelerating the development of non-agricultural sectors, to proposed countermeasures of integration of urban and rural markets in western region, format the mechanism that the urban development should promote the rural development, industrial development should promote the agricultural development, and achieving the coordination of urban and rural development; and build the market system of the connections between workers and peasants, urban and rural areas.The innovation of this study includes three aspects. Firstly, the paper proposes that the core dynamic mechanism of urban and rural integration is the urban and rural market integration. The development of market integration will contribute to exchange of resources, elements, commodity between urban and rural areas. At the same time, it will contribute to development of the industry between urban and rural areas. Secondly, the paper proposes that the lagging of urban and rural market integration in the western. In terms of urban and rural labor, goods market integration development, the eastern has shown a higher level than the western. In terms of urban and rural financial markets integration development, the western at a low level overall, especially financial products configured in the western has shown a unbalanced features.Thirdly, the paper proposes the development of urban and rural market integration has important implications in the urban-rural income gap. Empirical studies have shown that the evolution of the overall income gap between urban and rural. The evolution of the overall income gap between urban and rural residents shows Kuznets "inverted U-type" characteristics. But the urban-rural income gap will not narrow if anything doesn't change. It is important to enhance the openness of international investment, improve the financial expenditure of the cause of science, education spending Weight and improve transportation and other infrastructure on the whole.The research of this paper shows that the lagging of urban and rural market integration in the western is affected by policies, industrial structure, urbanization, infrastructure and other factors. It is the key to improve the system of support system,speed up integration of urban and rural infrastructure, enhance the city agglomeration function, and accelerate the development of non-agricultural industries for further promoting urban and rural market integration in the western.
