With the rapid development of Chinese market economy, the position of small and medium size enterprises has become much more important in the development of Chinese economic society which is like what has happened in the other countries. In the present world, all the countries including developed countries, newly industrialized countries and developing countries take the development of the small and medium size enterprises as a strategy to vitalize their economy. This has become a trend in the world now. Though the small and medium size enterprises have made much progress, they still have some weaknesses such as the extensiveness in business operation and low contribution rate of technology innovation to the business development due to the particular background of the development. In the new economy era and new situation of global economy, especially in the challenge of the entry of WTO, the small and medium size enterprises should emphasize on the technology innovation and take it as a strategy to adapt to the new situation and new challenge in order to realize the "second business establishment". This is a realistic option of the development of the small and medium size enterprises and also proved to be successful by the practice of the developed countries.The research in this thesis is on the process of technology innovation of small and medium size enterprises and is mainly on the innovation elements and the relations between the innovation media. The type of the issues in the research is decisive and operative and the subject of the innovation in study mainly refers to the small and medium size enterprises. This thesis offers a hypothesis of resource disadvantages and operation advantages in the process of technology innovation of the small and medium size enterprises. This hypothesis relies on a basic topic of the process theory of technology innovation: scale and innovation. The hypothesis is also combined with the measure analysis of the process of technology innovation of the small and medium size enterprises in our country. This thesis estab-lishes the models related with technology innovation of small and medium size enterprises. With the innovation model, the research of this thesis is mainly on the following three specific issues:1. R&D in the innovation process: resource restraint and strategy choice.2. Technique in the innovation process: innovation hysteresis and manufacture model.3. Equity in the innovation process: imitative innovation and equity of innovation.The content and structure of the thesis is arranged as follows:Chapter 1 summarizes the innovation process in classical theories of technology innovation. The author offers an influential innovation process model. This thesis starts from J. Peter's hypothesis of innovation restraint of small and medium size enterprises and elaborates the basic topics of the technology innovation research of small and medium size enterprises scale and innovation, including the relations between the business scale, market structure, technology chance, entry cost and the innovation. This thesis also evaluates the related academic opinions at home and abroad in the research of the technology innovation process of small and medium size enterprises.Chapter 2 makes positive investigation and analysis on the characteristics of the innovation process of small and medium size enterprises and reaches a conclusion that the technology innovation process of the small and medium size enterprises has both resource disadvantages and operation advantages. Based on the basic models of technology innovation process and on the analysis of the different stages of the process, the thesis sets forth three main stages of the inner process of technology innovation of small and medium size enterprises: R&D production and manufacture marketing. A process model reflecting the characteristics of the technology innovation of the small and medium size enterprises in our country is formed on the basis of the above research. This model is composed of three parts. The first part is on the transitional elements of the inner innovation. The second part is the resourceful elements of innovation process. The third part is the source elements and outer policy environment of innovation.Chapter 3 offers a positive measure evaluation of three different stages of the technology innovation of small and medium size enterprises in our country, i. e, investment stage: economic and technical targets and the strategy type of innova-tion; implementation stage: the elements of success and failure; output stage: quantitative and qualitative output. This thesis also analyzes the changes of the technology- innovation environment of small and medium size enterprises and the influence on the innovation operation. The thesis develops its research based on the aforementioned stages.Chapter 4 offers the issue of resource restraint in the R& D activities from point of view of the small and medium size enterprises. The thesis makes positive detailed analysis on the fund restraint, technique restraint and talent restraint in the R&D activities of the small and medium size enterprises. The thesis composes a selective model of the R&D activity using resource restraint as an basic element. With the model, it analyzes the influence of the related elements uncertainty, time hysteresis, cost, quality, price, innovation source on the R&D decision. This thesis sets forth the opinion of integrating R&D activities with the overall competitive strategy of the enterprises and offers the basic principles and evaluation criteria of the integration.Chapter 5 sets forth the hysteresis of technique innovation in the process of small and medium size enterprises from the characteristics of different stages of industrial innovation and the cycle of product and technique innovation with the investigated data and typical cases. Based on the general descriptive analysis of the technique innovation of small and medium size enterprises, the thesis offers and proves the strategy hysteresis from the view of manufacture organization and has detailed analysis of the related elements which affect the choice of the manufacture model.Chapter 6 offers and proves the motivation and restraint of the innovation equity system to the innovation activity by the analysis of the excessiveness of technology innovation. This thesis sets forth the issue of intellectual property of imitative innovation through the analysis the imitation behavior. From the view of innovation equity power , the thesis holds that the innovation equity system promotes or restrains the imitative innovation and offers the policies of ensuring the legality of imitative innovation and improves the efficiency of imitative innovation under the innovation equity system.
