A Study On The Structure Of FDI In China

Guided by the theories of FDI and multinational enterprises, this dissertation intends to find out the law of the change in FDI in the point of view of global perspective and multinational enterprises. Through the analysis on the changes in the total volume, industrial structure and geographical structure of FDI, as well as the comparative study of the structural characteristics of FDI by the major multinational enterprises in Japan, European countries and the United States ,the thesis investigates the structural characteristics of FDI inflow in China so as to propose some reasonable measures to optimize the structure of FDI inflow in China. The dissertation focuses on the following aspects. Firstly,it tries to divide the FDI theories into three categories based on perfect market, impefect market, and other variables ,as well as to comment on them. Secondly, both in the point of view of multinational enterprises and from global perspective, the author analyses such characteristics of FDI as location, inflow, and industry, theorfore concludes that there is a law in the structural change of FDI outflow. Thirdly, the author analyses the structure of FDI inflows in China in great detail based on georgraphy, industry and origin, so as to find out the characteristics in the structural change of FDI inflow in China. Forthly, the author suggests that the aim for the Chinese government to promote FDI should be adjusted from pursuing the quantity under the constraint of political and economic safety to pursuing the quality under the constraint of social and ecological safety. Based on the analysis of FDI of the main multinational enterprises and that of European Union, the dissertation has drawn the following conclusions .Firstly,the structure of FDI is decided on the motives of multinational enterprises and the situation of host countries.Secondly, the structre of FDI by multinational enterprises is closely related with such factors in host countries as location, political system, technology and economic structure,as well as import and export,etc.Thirdly, the structure of the FDI by multinational enterprises interacts with that of host countries.With the economic readjustment and the development of science and technological progress of host countries, the structure of FDI by the multinational enterprises in those countries evolves. Taking advantages of relevant research in this field, the author has obtained the following achievements in this dissertation. First, in the global perspective, the author studies the motives and behaviors of multinational enterprises not only from the supply but also from the demand of FDI, to initiate a new point of view of doing research on FDI in China. Secondly, the dissertation studies FDI from macro and micro point of view, and combines the research on FDI of global outflow, outflow from developed countries with the ones from multinational enterprises. Thirdly, the dissertation initiates a new division on the aim of FDI inflow, that is, the quality under the constraint of social and ecological safety and the quantity under the constraint of political and economic safety. Moreover, based on the analysis of the present situation of China, the author puts forward that China should be in pursuit of FDI inflow under the constraint of social and ecological safety to maitain the sustainable economic development in China.
