This thesis studies systemically the issue of rural-urban flow of Chinese labor forces. It contains 12 chapters including the preface. The first four chapters examine the foundations of knowledge and theory. The other seven chapters present the empirical research of the issue.1. Cost is a basic concept of economics, and cost– benefit analysis is the basic method of economics. Cost theory includes traditional cost theory and modern one. Sumuelson's Economics summarized systemically traditional cost theory and push it to a peak in midterm 20th century. Modern cost theory absorbs and reserves the valuable concepts and the idea of cost attributes (capital attribute and compensatory attribute), meanwhile, surmounts the limitations of traditional theory and put forwards some new concepts such as transaction cost, information cost, and society cost etc. These theories provide theoretical guide and useful tool to the analysis of labor forces flow from cost perspective.2. The idea of human capital can be traced back to Adam·Smith, yet the theory of human capital was coined by T.W.Shultz etc--some new classical economists--in the course of seeking the enigma of economic growth in the turning of the 50s and 60s of 20th century. Paul Romer and Robert Lucas's inner growth model furthered the theory. Through the foundation of the concept of human capital, human capital theory derives the concept of human cost, and hence dramatically enriches and expands the cost theory: the characteristic of human capital determines the characteristic of human cost; the style of human capital designates the consumption of human cost; the diversification of human capital investment, such as education, training and flow etc, defines the diversification of human cost content. The investment making-decision theory of human capital elevates the analysis method of cost-benefit to a new level.3.
