That all the participators are seeking for their own profits is the reason why the construction industry has the fragmented nature. Considering the difference of the profits and needs in construction collaboration, the researcher take the approach of exploring the factors influencing the success of the collaboration of the each partners and decreasing the antagonism of collaboration by understand the hidden relations as an alternative way to the get a successful collaboration.Researches on the Collaboration of engineering projects were collected and reviewed, including the success of collaboration, collaboration mode, Collaboration contracts, collaboration management index and so on. Based on the literature review, a pilot questionnaire was made out including the questions on factors that might influence collaboration success, identification of the successful collaboration, empirical opinions on collaboration, characters of the project and characters of the interviewees.Then, a face-to-face interviewing was executed to embody the pilot questionnaire, which was madeupof four parts: characters of the project filled by interviewers by collecting related information; quetions answered by client interviewees; quetions answered by contractor interviewees; quetions answered by construction supervisor interviewees. And the last three parts are different from each other only in appellations. 62 engineering projects located in Changsha and Qingdao were investigated and 186 interviewees, who are the principals of the 62 engineering projects were interviewed. Three statuses of Collaboration success were identified.,which are successful collaboration: satisfied relationship with project targets achieved; unstable collaboration: satisfied relationship with project targets abandoned and unsuccessful collaboration: unsatisfied relationship with project targets abandoned. Factor analysis was conducted and 13 factors, which might influence the success of collaboration were found among 46 variables. Factors of understanding were found significant to different success statuses of clients; factors of understanding, harmony, risk, creation and desicion were found significant to different success statuses of contractors; factors of credit, harmony, clients, desicion and antagonism were found significant to different success statuses of construction supervisers.
