As the main body of terrestrial ecosystem, forest plays an important and irreplaceable role for environment protection. And as the foundation of forestry development, forest resources are indispensable natural resources to promoting economic growth. It is important that protecting and recovering the forest resources is supposed to start with harmonizing the relationship between amount change of forest resources and economic growth. Economic growth should be achieved under constraint of sustainable use of forest resources and sustainable development of society and economy. In this way, forest resources, ecological environment, society and economy will develop coordinately. Consequently, it is vital for China's long term sustainable development that forest resources may change coordinately with economic growth, which is also helpful reference for the theories and practices of sustainable development globally.Amount change of forest resources result from the influence of natural and artificial factors. So it is necessary to know the historical and current relationship between amount change of forest resources and economic growth before coordinating them. And it is also important that forest resources condition and society and economy development status in studied regions must be considered thouroughly and carefully before a measure for coordinating forest use and protection is put forward. The course of amount change of forest resources is reviewed firstly in the thesis. The historical relationship of amount change of forest resources and economic growth is described by using of statistical methods, from which the stage of current relationship of amount change of forest resources and economic growth in China and typical regions can be estimated. Forest carrying capacity in China and typical regions is calculated based on the forest resources endowment and society and economy development status, and stress caused by forest consumption in the course of economic growth, namely ecological footprint of forest land, is estimated from the view of social demand of forest material product and ecological service. Lastly, based on the historical and current relationship between amount change of forest resources and economic growth, such issues as forest moderate protection and economic growth under constraint of forest resources and environment are discussed.Research indicates that China's forest resources experienced an alteration course from decrease to increase following economic growth in more than 50 years since the founding of New China. Current relationship of amount change of forest resources and economic growth in typical regions are in different stages, and forest carrying capacity and ecological footprint of forest land in selected regions differ remarkably. Because of these, forest protection may cause various influence on regional economic growth. The scale of forest protection is set according to different sustainability criterion, and the target of economic growth is established under constrain of this protection scale. In order to solve prominent problems, some measures for coordinating amount change of forest resources and economic growth and suggest for policies selecting are put forward in the end of thesis. For the sake of understanding and coordinating the relationship of amount change of forest resources and economic growth in China, problem of economic growth under constrain of resources and environment is groped for thoroughly. Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) is confirmed by the relation curve between amount change of forest resources and economic growth in China. Some quantitative methods, such as carrying capacity and ecological footprint, are used in describing the the relationship of amount change of forest resources and economic growth. There are many improvements at the aspect of theories, practices and methods.
