"Research on Sustainable Development and Management of China Mountain-Settlement"is a kind of foundational work with exploratory and operational significance to serve the comprehensive well-being society construction. Employed the research methods of the traditional settlement and social survey as the basic methods, combined the popular development research method such as PRA & RRA with the structure and functional analytic methods, taking the Upper Reach of Minjiang River as a research area, the specific settlement as a unit analysis, this dissertation makes an attempt to establish the sustainable development and management theory for China mountain-settlement, and puts forward the management strategy.The whole dissertation consists 4 parts and includes 14 chapters.Part 1 from Chapter1 to chapter 5, establishes the theoretical framework on sustainable development and management of China mountain settlement, including the concepts, structure and function of rural settlement, the theory & methods and patterns of settlement development, the characteristics of China mountain-settlement and the essence of sustainable development and management of mountain-settlement as well as the evaluating methods. Part 2 from Chapter 6 to Chapter 8 concentrates on the Upper Reach of Minjiang River and discusses the regional settings, the evolving mechanism and classification of the settlement. Part 3 from Chapter 9 to Chapter 11, focuses on the settlement case study, and discusses the development and management patterns in the different areas in the Upper Reach of Minjiang River. Part 4 from Chapter12 to Chapter 14, bases on the analysis on settlement-oriented poverty and its rooted causes, then raises the recommendations both on development strategy and management countermeasures for settlement-oriented sustainable development.
