Study On China's BOP Structure

China's BOP structure, since 1980s, is neither in accordance with BOP phase theories, nor uniform to practice of BOP structure of most other countries. It is rarely in world economic history. Studies on it will test and enrich the existing BOP phase theories, explain the dilemma between China's internal equity and external equity. Upon the analysis on the specificity of China's BOP structure, this dissertation studies causes of it, from the angle of foreign economic development strategy. The equilibrium of it is also discussed and related economic policies are also proposed. This dissertation consists of five parts:Firstly, the relationship between BOP structure and foreign economic development strategy is the starting point of our studies. Existing theories have made known trade period and debt period phenomenon in the process of industrialization, which is reflected in the development of BOP structure. Nevertheless, it can't acquire the support from the experiences in recent thirty years, neither in developed countries or the emerging countries. We are interesting in the deviation between theories and experiences. Since foreign economic development strategy of a country can change the way of international trade and capital flowing, we want to find if it can change the structure of China's BOP.Secondly, we study how trade strategy change China's BOP structure. China's trade strategy shows the characteristics of 'compulsive export', which has influences on import policies, export policies and exchange rate policies. And then these policies affect China's BOP structure.Thirdly, we study how foreign capital strategy change China's BOP structure. China's foreign capital strategy shows the characteristics of multiple targets, under which the form we use the foreign capital, the preferential policies and system of implement of policies affect China's BOP structure.Fourthly, we discuss the equilibrium of China's BOP structure. China's trade strategy and foreign capital strategy have their rationalities in history, but they are lacking in harmony in nowadays and cause the internal and external inequity. So shall definite again what is the equilibrium of China's BOP structure from the angle of economic rationality and persistence of China's BOP structure.Finally, suggestions for adjustment of China's BOP are made on the adjustment of our foreign economic development strategy.
