Comprehensively implementing Industrial Ecology, Symbiosis Theory, Game Theory and Circular Economy, this dissertation conducts the study on growth modeling and symbiosis efficiency evaluation of Industrial Symbiosis (IS) by combining theory analysis with demonstration investigation, quantity research with quality research.Firstly, by reviewing related theories, the emergence of IS is found to be compliant with the particular historical background and requirements of social development, which is also be supported by lots of mature theory systems. In particular, the notions including Industrial Symbiosis Network (ISN), Eco-industrial Chain (EIC) and IS etc. are distinguished, which reveals that they are all the descriptions of inter-relationship among enterprises in EIP. In other words, the only difference between EIC and ISN rests with the IS growing phases they represent respectively.Secondly, this dissertation discusses the relationship between environmental and economic performance, and also the influence of corporate technical system on their reconcilability. Recognized the profit-maximization goal of independent firms, their interaction with government is studied basing on the game theory. The result also shows the required characteristics of economy prompting environmental policy. Based on the comparison to Industrial Cluster, IS is approved to be endowed with remarkable advantages on cost reduction and benefits from symbiosis effect as well. Then, all the factors and processes mentioned above are synthesized into the formation mechanism of IS.From the view of ecology theory, IS is supposed in this dissertation to be going through growing process the same as natural ecosystem. The factors are researched, and the growing process model of IS is setup to find the condition of successful growth. Also, numerical simulation method is employed in the results analyzing.Finally, on the basis of Eco-efficiency (EE), which is defined by World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the concept of Symbiosis Efficiency (SE) is brought forward to evaluate the running state of IS. After index system and theoretical model formulating, results are reported from an empirical analysis of the IS in Mengxi EIP.
