Projective Study On Occupational Stress Of Female Managers

There are more and more female managers who are promoted to higher level of the organizations after renovation and opening in China. They participate in management and innovation. As a new and outstanding group, the female managers are growing up. They are competence, skillful and professional. They contribute to their organizations and the society.This study conducted researches on the status of female managers who are from 32 different companies in a same city, using tools developed by the researcher. The tools including stress-psychosomatic questionnaire and projective test based on the qualitative research. The results show:1. The stress-psychosomatic questionnaire and the projective test have high reliability and validity. The tools are effective with this research.2. The female and male managers have same level job satisfaction and self reported stress. Female managers work as long as male managers, but longer than average female employees weekly. The longer work time of female managers is due to the job rather than the gender.3. Mental health of female managers is better than that of average female employees. Female managers report less burnout and depression. The female managers reported more symptom of psychosomatic than male managers. Probably this is because female managers are more sensitive than male counterparts. or male managers tend to deny their suffering.4. Female managers have higher job satisfaction and are more stressful than average female employees. This shows female managers have more effective coping strategies. These strategies are proved effective in the clinical practice.5. Female managers should adopt effective coping strategies to deal with work stress to ensure mental health. Organizations should provide support in this regard.
