The dissertation studies human resource management duties of mid-level managers and the corresponding competencies, on the background of some selected businesses of Guangdong Province.It makes use of the methods of exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmentary factor analysis (CFA) to establish a content model of human resource management duties and a content model of the corresponding competencies, and it also studies the relationship between the competencies and the performance of the mid-level managers.The four elements of the content model of human resource management duties are training and development, motivation management, recruitment and selection, and relationship performance. The five elements of the content model of competencies are development of the subordinates, interpersonal skills, corporate commitment, personal characteristics and personnel skills.The study shows positive-going relationship between the elements of development of subordinates and personal characteristics and the result variable of task performance, the element of interpersonal skills and the result variable of relationship performance, the element of corporate commitment and the result variable of management performance, the element of personnel skills and the result variables of management performance and relationship performance.
