Research On The Relationships Of Intellectual Capital And Corporate Core Competence And Performance

The globalization 21 century has coming,under the wave of global competition,corporation had entered the world-wild market and encountered numerous competitors.Furthermore,information technology and internet accelerate business administration field steps into a new era.Traditionally,measuring corporation value as fiscal and tangible asset been antiquated,the intangible assets such as core-competence, innovation take place.Therefore,scholars propose a new measure methodology—intellectual capital which can explain why the corporation market value surpass book value.This measure methodology will assist high-level managers to identify what is the important asset when corporation faces the competition across internal and external environment systematically.It has become a significant index to evaluate corporation value currently.This research takes corporate core-competence and performance as a spindle to discuss the relationship between corporation intellectual capital,core-competence and performance.Questionnaire was delivered over mega-enterprise broadly and quantitative methods,including factor analysis,path analysis,relational analysis and regression analysis, used to test the hypothesis of this research.The major findings of this study are summarized as following:(1)Human-capital does enhance corporative competitive advantage, core-competence and performance simultaneously.The more investment over human-capital will bring higher corporative performance.(2)Structural-capital does enhance corporative competitive advantage and core-competence.The more emphasizing over processing capability and intellectual property management will bring higher corporative performance.(3)Relational-capital facilitates corporative competitive advantage and core-competence.The more emphasizing over customer-relationship,partnership and supplier relationship will bring higher corporative performance.(4)Human-capital can support Structural-capital and Re1ationa1-capita1 simu1taneous1y.Beside the questionnaire survey,this study also adopts financial view which assumes"market to book value comparison"Stewart(1997)to measure the corporative intellectual capital.The samples of this study are top 1,000 companies which listed on Hong Kong,Taipei,Shanghai and Shenzhen stock market in 2006.The major findings are bellowing:(1)In China area,raw-material industry companies have more intellectual capital advantage than those in other industries, and financial sector is weak.(2)In Hong Kong area,service sector has more intellectual capital advantage than those in other industries,and financial sector is weak.(3)In Taiwan area,IT companies have more intellectual capital advantage than those in other industries,and financial sector is weak.(4)The cross-analysis in three area result that there is no outstanding industry over intellectual capital item in China. However,Hong Kong service sector has best intellectual capital against the rest two areas.Taiwan IT companies have best competitive advantage over intellectual capital.All of three area companies present that intellectual capital has significant positive impact on corporate net earning and profit with highest correlation.In the other hand,the intellectual capital has significant negative impact on corporate asset and sales revenue with lowest correlation.
