Research-based Container Shipping Company's Core Competitiveness Of The Knowledge Capital

The knowledge-based economy Era is coming. The wide application of information technology not only promotes the globalization of world economy, but also exacerbates the competition among companies. In the face of fierce competition, the large shipping companies in our country must innovate their developing thread. Today's changing environment has led to further inter company rationalization. It is transforming the traditional mode of competition. In this trend, management of company's core competence becomes the hot issue.This thesis aims at discussing the core competence of the ten liner companies in the market and brings up that the core competence enhancement is the ultimate strategy platform for our liner companies' global expansion. The core competence theory is borrowed from American's corporate management strategists, C.K. Parahalad and Gary Hamel. As the environment of shipping market is facing an adverse change, ship liners should always alert on the external changes, broaden up its view, identify its uniqueness and competencies.This thesis firstly looked back and summarized the study on the core competence theory and intellectual capital theory, and composed a theory frame for the following research. Based on the integration of "intellectual capital" and "core competence" and the characters of liner industry, the paper set up an evaluation index system of "intellectual-capital-based core competence" for liner corporations. And then the top 10s liner corporations in liner industry were evaluated synthetically with DEA and AHP. The results were explained quantified and qualified by the structures of "intellectual capital", which are "human capital", "technology capital", "organizational capital", and "customer competence", "social capital". A contrast between the core competence of the liner corporation in our country and the ones in other countries was also conducted by planar analyses method. Finally, the paper proposed detailed suggestion and measures to fosterand promote core competence for our line corporation as well as the key problems during the execution.
