Research On Latecomer Financial Enterprises' Technological Management Innovation Based On Ambidexterity Perspective

Continual innovation and development of information technology (IT) accelerated financial enterprises'development at home and abroad, information construction and improvement is the key to keep financial industry's long lasting development. Those latecomer financial enterprises will face multi-troubles and challenge during information construction because of their shortage of resource capabilities, knowledge capabilities and innovation capabilities. Thus, it's significant for those latecomer financial enterprises to finish information construction smoothly by technological management innovation to compensate for these shortages. In this paper, Liaoning Rural Credit Union (LRCU) was the main object to analyze its technological management innovation during information construction. Because information construction is a long complex process which covered many details, this paper, based on ambidexterity perspective and by combinative methods between theoretical research and case studies, endeavored to indicate how to finish construction tasks and improve LRCU's organizational capabilities during information construction process with the innovation and transformational efforts of leaders and technical staff in technology section by multi-case studies including provisional networking construction, "simple" disaster recovery center construction and IT resource supervisory control management system construction cases. Main woks of this paper are as follows:(1) Governing factors leading to LRCU's information construction implementation smoothly was analyzed. Firstly, factor analysis and gap analysis was conducted by survey data to distinguish and summarize internal and external main factors influencing LRCU's technological management innovation, and similarity degree of these internal and external main factors was measured to analyze the fit degree between them, then, based on these analytical results, three typical case studies were conducted to reveal the different roles of external environments, internal environments and leaders in implementing information construction smoothly.(2) Components abilities, formation path and formation essential factors of leader's ambidexterity during technological management innovation were systematically researched. This paper, relating leader's efficacy to leader's ambidexterity, summarized leader's ambidexterity consisting of abnormal abilities including resource integration abilities and operation abilities, and normal abilities including thought and creative abilities. The formation path included four paths as from up to down, from internal to external, from down to up, and from external to internal. Although these components abilities and formation paths were incarnated during the whole construction process, their importance was different during different construction periods, and it was also pointed out that these components abilities and formation paths of leader's ambidexterity will become complex with deep development of information construction.In addition, this paper tried to explore formation essential factors from both external side and internal side. According to three case studies, external essential factors include LRCU's normal and loose management environment, task requirements of leaders undertake are not clearly defined, and leader's wide connection with internal and external.And based on many times'interview and observation on LRCU's middle-level leader and main technical staff, some essential factors of leader's spirit, trait and behavior including leader's lavish industrial experience and active learning consciousness, leader's innovation enthusiasm and vigorous working style, and leader's pragmatic spirit and strong responsibility were summarized.(3) Evolutionary process of ambidexterity from leader's individual side to organizational level. Existing works related to ambidexterity almost tried to analyze it on organizational level, and few of them endeavored to research it on individual level, therefore, some researchers suggested that it would be a promising direction to do analysis of ambidexterity on individual level. Because of this, this paper focused on leader's individual ambidexterity and analyzed its important role during the whole information construction, the analytical results of three typical cases'longitudinal data indicated that the middle-level leader by his transformational leadership and systems thinking not only fulfilled tasks of information construction well, but also improved organizational adaptability and fitness. Adaptability and fitness are essential for organizational ambidexterity, thus, the analytical results of this paper revealed the evolutional phenomenon from leader's individual ambidexterity to organizational ambidexterity.(4) Some new theories and methodologies were tried to explore and verify. Dynamism of the whole information construction was revealed by multi-case studies methodology. This paper tried to study several typical cases happened at different period but they are from the same enterprise, it differed from that traditional multi-case studies methodology on different enterprises'cases, and its advantage is that it could ensure dynamism of the whole research and it could provide complete information and data, and it could reveal capabilities improvement and evolutionary process systematically during the whole technological management innovation process. This paper is also tried to apply "adaptability efficiency", which was first suggested by North of Nobel prize winner on national institutional level, to enterprises'management level, analyzed middle-level leader's role during technological management innovation and practice of latecomer financial enterprises'technological management innovation, efforts to explore and verify all of these new theories and methodologies will be helpful to provide valuable reference for summarizing some new theories of management innovation, and future works will be to improve these new theories and methodologies.
