Yarn dyed fabric is an important category in Chinese fabric industry. It has advantages of good dye permeability, high color fastness, rich pattern appearances and strong sense of three-dimensional features, so it has big market both at home and abroad. Appearance of fabric is a main concern for consumers to buy fabric products, and aesthetic evaluation including personal preferences directly determine consumers’ purchasing decisions. Hence, to improve sales of yarn-dyed fabrics, we should not only improve its physical features, but also pay attention to consumers’ psychological comfort. Strengthening the research of fabric design aesthetics is an important way to enhance the quality of fabrics, and it is the strategic demand of China’s textile industry transformation and upgrading. However, due to the subjectivity and uncertainty of consumers’ aesthetic evaluation, the existing research rarely involves the fabric design aesthetics and consumers’ sensory evaluation. This is the problem of current research: how to get consumers’ aesthetic evaluations and needs of fabrics, and how to establish channels of communication between consumer and producer. Transforming the perceptual evaluation into rational expression by using scientific experiment and analysis method is the key to ensure the scientificity of the research.In this paper, yarn-dyed fabric is taken as the research object and Kansei engineering is used as the technical tool. Combined with fashion design knowledge and aesthetic theory, the method of obtaining and quantifying aesthetic evaluation is proposed. Through the experiment and clustering analysis, the image space of yarn-dyed fabric is established and the 5 dimensions of fabric aesthetic evaluation is proposed. On the basis of the above, representative samples of yarn-dyed fabric materials were used in the evaluation experiment, and data analysis method of factor analysis, regression analysis, independent samples T test method were applied to explore the aesthetic evaluation factors of yarn-dyed fabric materials and the aesthetic features of different materials. On the other hand, representative plaid patterns of yarn-dyed fabric were chosen in the evaluation experiment. Then the mapping model of plaid pattern design features and aesthetic evaluation is established by quantifying design features of plaid pattern and applying PLS algorithm. Finally, to solve the communication problem of consumers’ aesthetic needs for products between the consumer and the producer, the method of expressing and quantifying consumers’ aesthetic needs is proposed and the personalized recommendation model of yarn-dyed fabrics is demonstrated based on consumers’ aesthetic needs. The main research contents and conclusions are as follows:1) Based on the Kansei engineering theory, the quantitative method of fabric aesthetic evaluation is proposed, which provides the theoretical basis for the quantitative research of aesthetic evaluation.On the basis of the relationship between aesthetics and perceptual image, the experiment method of Kansei engineering is applied. The acquisition and quantitative method of aesthetic evaluation for fabrics is proposed. The paper provides the basis for the evaluation research.2) The paper explores the dimensions of aesthetic evaluation for yarn-dyed fabrics. The emotional process of aesthetic evaluation is confirmed through the experiment and the forms of fabric aesthetic imagery is summarized.To meet consumers’ aesthetic needs for yarn-dyed fabrics, the perceptual image space of yarn-dyed fabric is established through the experiment. On this basis, cluster analysis is used to mine the experiment data, and the 5 dimensions of yarn-dyed fabric aesthetic evaluation is proposed. The experiment results summarize the process and attribute of aesthetic evaluation for yarn-dyed fabrics.3) The paper explores the aesthetic evaluation and analysis method for yarn-dyed fabrics. The relationship between fabric design elements and consumers’ aesthetic evaluation is established and the aesthetic features of different design elements are proposed.Association study between design elements and aesthetic evaluation is conducted from the perspective of material and pattern. For the study of material aesthetic evaluation, spring and summer shirt yarn-dyed fabrics were taken as the research object, and the most commonly used materials on the market were selected as fabric samples. After the evaluation experiment, data analysis method of factor analysis and regression analysis were used to explore the aesthetic evaluation factors of yarn-dyed materials and aesthetic features of different yarn-dyed materials. Experiment results show that aesthetic evaluation factors of yarn-dyed fabrics can be interpreted as 6 factors and there is an evident difference in terms of image perceptions, preferences and the factors affecting preferences of the yarn-dyed fabrics between male and female subjects.For the study of pattern aesthetic evaluation, the yarn-dyed fabrics of plaid pattern were taken as the example, and the design features of plaid were divided and quantified. The mapping relationship between design features and aesthetic evaluation is established by using PLS algorithm. The aesthetic imagery of different design features are proposed and the design features significantly affecting the aesthetic imagery are summarized.4) Aesthetic evaluation method for yarn-dyed fabrics is applied to fabric recommendation. Based on consumer’s aesthetic needs, the personalized recommendation method for yarn-dyed fabrics are proposed. The key technology of personalized recommendation are discussed and the accuracy of aesthetic evaluation conclusions are proved.On the basis of quantitative consumer aesthetic needs and the relationship between yarn-dyed fabric design elements and aesthetic evaluation, the personalized recommendation model for yarn-dyed fabrics are proposed. The key technology and the realization method of personalized recommendation process are discussed. The consumers’ aesthetic needs are quantified by using the analytic hierarchy process(AHP) method. The conclusion of the aesthetic evaluation for yarn-dyed fabrics are applied to realize the personalized recommendation. The experiment results show that the personalized recommendation model can provide a means of communication and interaction of aesthetic demand information, and the aesthetic evaluation conclusion can be used in design and recommendation of yarn-dyed fabrics.
