With the development of advanced technology, such as computer technology, network technology, sensor technology, etc., a new generation of internet-based network technology—Internet of Things (also called IOT) has come into being. IOT launches a new round of information revolution following that of computer, internet and mobile communication network, providing a significant opportunity for human beings to the development of the modern society in the21st century. At present, more and more cities are puzzled by the increasingly roadway congestions and safety problems all over the world. The prevalent problems all exist in transportation industry, which include low utilization rate of roadways, insufficient network operation and limited modernization level of communication. One of the critical reasons for the emergence of these problems lies in asymmetric traffic information, imperfect information service system and the lack of information management. At the same time, the technology of IOT can sufficiently solve these problems, which exerts tremendous and profound influence on the transportation field, even the whole society. The further research of information collection, transmitting, processing and service characteristics of the IOT and the systematic study of regional traffic information network based on the Internet of Things adapts to the practical demand with the informatization of the transportation industry, which not only improves the operation efficiency of the transportation system but also promotes the restructuring and upgrading of the industry.This dissertation focuses on the regional traffic information network with an in-depth study of IOT’s influence on the transportation industry, determines the research orientation of the regional traffic network, and builds up a IOT-based regional traffic information network, on which the hierarchy structure and systematical framework of regional traffic information network based on IOT are established.The dissertation is based on requirement theory, analyses requirement of regional traffic information of IOT. Upon this, turn the ideas of four-step methods of transport planning to traffic information network planning and analysis model. Then the dissertation forms four-step methods of traffic information network planning and analysis. That is, forecasting of traffic information volume, distribution forecasting of traffic information volume, transmission mode forecasting of traffic information volume and assignment forecasting of traffic information volume. Meanwhile, according to the feature of traffic information flow, make a further research on forecasting methods and models of every stage based on information entropy.Next, this dissertation makes a deep discussion of the three network layout modes of regional traffic information----Hub-and-Spoke, Full-Connected and Ring Topology, include analyzing the structural features and the applicable conditions of three modes in detail, and from three aspects----network efficiency, structural reliability, and network costs, comparing three modes by using a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods.Then the dissertation puts forward the optimization model of regional traffic information network layout based on the demand of IOT, by using multiple attribute decision model which is based on TOPSIS method and gray correlation degree model combined with optimization theory to analyze transportation network layout. Finally, gives an empirical research on prediction of amount of information, the network model, and network layout optimization model, based on traffic information network construction of Western Hubei province.After that the dissertation analyzes the phase characteristics of development of the regional traffic information industry, and discusses the implementation planning and operation mechanism of regional traffic information network on the basis of current situation of IOT in transportation field.Eventually, this dissertation studies how to construct a relatively complete, economic and reasonable, technology reliable, high efficiency regional traffic information network systematically under the environment of IOT. The innovative achievements of this dissertation can be summed up as the followings:four-step method to predict the amount of regional transportation information, network layout models, and research on optimization of network layout.
