This paper has a research on large scale construction projects organization, using many theories and methods such as system engineering theory, system complexity theory, SoS theory, learning organization theory and mathematical modeling, computerized simulation. The system complexity of large scale construction projects organization is analyzed from different view. The mechanism and implementation strategies of coordination management are researched based on synergetic theory and learning organization theory.First, from the system point of view, properties, elements, structure, and function of large-scale construction projects organizational system are analyzed using general system theory and complexity theory. Further, considering the characteristics of the large-scale construction projects organization, the structure complexity, behavior complexity and cognitive complexity are analyzed respectively with qualitative methods. The necessity and importance of the organizational collaborative management are pointed out.Secondly, with the view of the system of systems, the organization’s SoS features are analyzed. Large-scale construction projects organization is composed of many separate entity systems. They adapt to each other under the unified organizational goals. The concept of SoS of large scale construction projects organization is established. It is proposed that the architecting of the organization systems of systems should include establishing an open integration platform, as well as designing rational organizational architecture. The principles of symbiosis, reconfigurable, modular etc that should obey are proposed at last. Considering the structure complexities of the organization such as hierarchy, relevance, and the emergence, the mathematical model to evaluate the organization’s performance is established.Third, for the behavior complexity, the complex adaptive mechanisms of large-scale construction projects organization system are analyzed in-depth with the simulation method. It verifies that when self-organization behavior and hetero-organization behavior exist simultaneously, the level of system adaptivity is the highest.Fourth, the collaborative mechanism of large construction projects organization is analyzed based on the synergetic theory. It analyzed two dynamic mechanisms that come out the nonrandom structure:competition and coordination. It points out that the regulations, institutions and cultures that multi-agent obeyed mutually is the organization’s order parameter. On the basis of this, the concept of collaborative management platform is proposed. The platform offers an environment for the integration, cooperation and ability emergence of multi-agents which is the necessary external condition to form the order parameter. The connotation, functions, structure and operation mechanism of the platform is proposed. The key points of the cooperative management mechanism are studied based on the simulation methods.Finally, how to achieve self-organizing collaborative management of large-scale engineering project organizations through five principles of learning organization is studied based on learning organization theory. The obstacles of the project organizational coordination are analyzed based on system thinking. It points out that the key management points are enthusiasm of collaboration and the ability of reconciliation. Based on these two points as well as the practice the specific implementation strategies of engineering organization’s culture synergetic are proposed.
