With global warming, storm surge is a growing threat. Disaster mantigation and resilient cities became a hot topic. While, the role of landscape infrastructure is becoming more and more important in urban area, as well as in storm surge adaptation aspect. Therefore, the starting point of this study is to develop the storm surge adaptability of the city by landscape infrastructure in light of resilient cities.First, the thesis explains the concepts of resilient cities, landscape infrastructure and adaptability, etc. Then, it analyses the evolution, contents and features of resilient cities, concludes its provoking ideas to city planning. This study also analyses the causes, hams and influencial factors of storm surge, discusses the history of how human beings against storm surge, sums up the current major storm surge adaptation methods, then digs up the problems of these methods. The research analyses the concept extension and role transformation of landscape infrastructure in light of ecologism and landscape urbanism, points out the significant roles of landscape infrastructure in disaster matigation by combining the features of landscape infrastructure and principles of resilient cities, then presents the framework of resilient landscape infrastructure. Four perspectives of landscape infrastructure storm surge adaptation strategy are discussed in this article. The first perspective is theoretical framework, presents ideas under the framework of module, web and dimension, embodies the guidance of resilient cities. The second perspective is the functions of landscape infrastructure in storm surge adaptation, which are impact adaptation, flood adaptation and salinization adaptation. The third is spacial distribution, discusses waterfront parks, beaches, inland parks, natural reserve area and streets. The forth perspective is driving factors, which contains risk evaluation and moniting, policis and public engagement. Then, the article takes New York City as an example and draws lessons from typical landscape infrastructure practices, then as a feedback to inspire the theory part of the thesis. This thesis is based on the theory of resilient cities and brings up the storm surge adaptation strategies through landscape infrastructure. It extends the scope of resilient cities by combining the features of landscape infrastructure. These two studies promote each other while the study of practical projects is a feedback to improve the theory.
