Study On Complementary Design Method On The Basis Of Visual Communication Design

The paper takes complementary phenomenon of design practice and research as the starting point to carry out research, and conducts relatively deep “complementary” thought from many aspects, such as concept, philosophy thought source, thinking mode, scientific principle, methodology, etc.; and under current state where traditional media and digital media make coexistence, implements research and analysis on “complementary” characteristics showed during transformation process of visual communication design and complementary laws represented during design thinking process, it is found from the research and analysis that complementation not only is a kind of natural law, a kind of philosophical thinking, a kind of scientific principle and a kind of method, but also can be regarded as a kind of design method, namely “establishing a kind of design thinking mode of mutual relations”. The method has already showed in people’s creation activities and information delivery activities in different gestures; the author tries to make carding and establishment towards it.By taking the field of visual communication design as the basis, focusing on design innovation concept and analyzing “comprehensive observation—rational analysis—intuition induction—corresponding association—imagination and creation” and design thinking mode established by continuous “system assessment” for all stages, find that “problem recognition” and image translation” are two key links and main contents in design process. Application of complementary design method in visual communication design is mainly reflected that: establishing cognitive pattern of visual communication design from “complementary perspective”, leading to more comprehensive and deeper innovative thinking from forward direction and reversal perspective, the perspective of seeking the same and seeking difference, self and non-self perspective, orderly and disorderly perspective, traditional and future perspective; establishing translation and generating patterns of visual image by using “complementary method”. By viewing annotation of theme from straight forward way and metaphor, viewing establishment of visual image from concretization and abstraction, viewing expression of visual image from accuracy and blur, viewing presentation of visual image from static state and dynamic state, viewing delivery of visual information from unidirection and interaction, find solution of design from methods of many contradictions.The paper makes verification and confirmation from outward appearance to inner essence by analysis and illustration of over one hundred typical design cases, specific design practice and teaching experiment, carries forward gradually to complete research on complementary design method taking the field of visual communication design as the basis. At present, design discipline theory cycle makes few systematic studies on design method, thus the research has certain theoretical significance and practice guidance value to improvement of design discipline methodology system.
