When the ecological decay during the age of industrial civilization has been changing into the modern ecological civilization awareness, the development model and target of living environment around human being will also be changed fundamentally due to the social value transformation. It will have a specific significance when this kind of change is applied to the design of bridges in mountain cities.Mountain cities have unique landscapes and ecosystem because of the complex geography, which creates special scenery with various bridges. Due to the distinct land form, the functions of bridges require more advanced technology and design. In order to meet the standards of eco-aesthetics, this thesis paper analyzed the potential ecological aesthetic value of mountain cities via using the basic rules of philosophy, aestheticism, arts and sociology, aesthetic psychology and ecology, and Chongqing was selected as a representative sample of mountain cites as to explore and seek the eco-aesthetic essence, discipline and value of bridges in many aspects and angles.Researching work includes:①The beginning of this thesis paper7 is the research background, namely the introduction, in which related concepts have been narrowed down and given explanation. In this section, the eco-aesthetics value of bridges in the mountain cities was analyzed. Then came the literature review of related theories and achievements in bridge ecology and aesthetics, based on which the significance of this thesis paper was presented after analyzing the limitations of those theories and achievements.②The transportation function of bridges should coordinate with their aesthetic function, and they should not break the ecology balance in mountain cities. Therefore, the eco-aesthetics concept was brought into the function-orientated design of bridges in mountain cities, which can meet the standard of ecological landscape of a bridge itself, as well as the harmony between the landscape planning in mountain cities. Then, the principles and methods of bridge design in mountain cities have been explored.③Based on the related theories, key researching points and methods, the structure of this thesis paper has been formulated. The design strategy based on eco-aesthetics has been proposed according to the features of transportation and eco- aesthetics design frames in mountain cities.④The assessment indicator system of eco-aesthetics bridge design in mountain cities has been established through analytic hierarchy process and theoretical analysis method. The assessment indicator system are made of nine third-class indicators(based on the bridge eco-aesthetics in mountain cities, the external influence around the eco-system and bridge styles and landscape), namely, the ecological compensation of bridge ecology and landscape design in mountain cities, the embodiment degree in humanistic advocacy and custom features, the coordination degree between landscape in mountain cities and bridge structures, the ecosystem damage caused by human being, the damage degree of bridge structures and ecosystem caused by natural disasters, the rationality of selecting bridge building sites in mountain cities, the selection of bridge colors and materials in mountain cities, bridge night scene lighting, the level of landscape greening. The assessment indicator system and evaluating level have been finally forged, which are complied with the eco-aesthetics standers of bridges in mountain cities and can provide scientific reference for designing bridges in Chinese mountain cities.⑤Bridges in Chongqing, the mountain city, have been chosen as an example, which has been evaluated by the assessment indicator system of the eco-aesthetics bridge design in mountain cities.
