This paper is urban center space optimization research based on the concept of green transportation. Establishing the link between urban central space and green transportation development is an important issue that all cities will face in the course of development. Importance of green transportation in urban development is very significant, through the urban central space optimization design to support the development of green transportation, has important theoretical and practical significance for the sustainable development of ecological city in the future.Based on the theory of urban center space under the green transportation concept, establish the concept of urban center space framework of green transportation theory, reveals the pattern of the urban center space under the concept of green transportation is a urban design and development planning comprehensive of traffic and travel in many aspects, is one of the key work of contemporary sustainable development city, reviews the mechanism of green transportation concept in the urban center space and the related factors, analysis of the core idea from multiple dimensions as society, economy and environment, clear the development goals of urban center space under the green transportation concept- reduce traffic congestion, reduce environmental pollution, promote social justice and rational use of resources, and then put forward the optimization principle of urban center space.Through collation and collection of urban planning, urban design and urban space environment quality evaluation system and index, and analysis the quantified research result of relationship between travel choice and urban center space characteristics get from the previous studies, both domestic and internatioanl, proposed space characteristics index in the aspects of traffic environment and behavior environment, built concept model of urban center space under the green transportation concept.Based on the analysis of the characteristics of the urban center space under the green transportation concept, deeply analysis the urban center space optimization strategies from the aspects of traffic environment and behavior environment. To improve the traffic environment, urban center space optimization strategies, improve walking trips’ quality, pursuit maximize use of public transport and reduce the impact vehicle to walk effect are proposed to meet the objective travel needs. To improve the behavior environment, urban center space optimization strategies, optimize design of street buildings to adapt slow travel oriented development, optimize design of street space to improve trafficability and the stayability and optimize design of street landscape to create a dynamic and signature are proposed to meet the subjective travel experience.Based on the theoretical research and practice, this paper chooses Harbin’s urban center space for an empirical study of space optimization. Based on the quantitative analysis, the advantages and disadvantages of the space in the traffic environment and behavior environment of Harbin urban center space are analyzed. In this study, the influence of spatial characteristics of urban center space on traffic environment and behavior quality are discussed in both old and new urban areas as well as in winter and summer.Through the research of this paper, could improve and promote the theory system of spatial optimization of urban center space in the visual threshold of green transportation, provide objective urban center space optimization reference system and scientific optimization strategies, it has important practical significance to expanding urban center space optimization design, build better urban center space research model and promote the sustainable development of the urban center space.
