Storage insects can living and breeding in extreme dry storage, it is not only difined as storage pests, but also including their predators and parasites. Storage insects directly correlated with inspection and quarantine work of import and export, for the past few years, Jilin province has established trade contacts with several countries such as Russia, North and South Korea and countries in Africa. With this background, this study investigated the taxonomy, distribution and damage of stored product insects, moreover, based on the quarantine work of beetle related import plants, plant products and containers, quarantine identification methods of eight stored pests were established. finally, the antenna sensilla of Trogoderma granarium Everts and Trogoderma variabile Ballion were observed under scanning electrical microscope. The results could improve the quality of quarantine work, better protect the agriculture production, help us to break the trade barriers and keep our reputation on foreign trade, also, better managing these storage pests. This study investigated the taxonomy. morphology and antenna sensilla of storage insets, with the conclusion as follows: 1. Totally, 162 species of storage insects were found in Jilin Province, which belonged to 3 classes, 12 orders, 52 families, there into, storage pests are 131 species which distributed in 1 class, 7 orders, 39 families, 5 natural enemies species. 18 species of storage pests were firstly recorded to appear in Jilin province. They were Caulophilus oryzae, Dermestes freudei, Merohister jekeli, Monotoma picipes, Idiophyes niponensis, Dienerella costulaua, Dienerella arga, Cartodere constricta, Microcrypticus scriptum, Micrambe bimaculatus, Cryptophagus obsoletus, Cryptophagus pseudoschmidti and Mycetophagus antennatus. 5 natural enemies: Anisolabis excise, Forcipula yunnanea, Xylocoris galactinus, Venturia canescens and Silvestrina tyrophagi. Only one species were found to break out in some areas in Jilin province(Acanthoscelides obtectus). 2. The Chinese name of 6 storage insects were corrected for the convenients of further research based on their family name: Araecerus fasciculatus was renamed Ka Fei Chang Jiao Xiang, Silvanus bidentatus was renamed Shuang Chi Ju Gu Dao, Holoparamecus ellipticus renamed Tuo Yuan Bian Xin Jia, Holoparamecus signatus renamed Tou Jiao Bian Xin Jia, Mycetophagus hillerianus renamed Bo Wen Xiao Xun Jia, Mycetophagus antennatus renamed Cu Jiao Xiao Xun Jia. 3. Based on the study of 7 storage insects’ life cycle and morphology of larva and adults, established quarantine and identification methods on Bruchidius atrolineatus, Callosobruchus maculates, Trogoderma inclusum, Trogoderma versicolor, Hylotrupes bajulus, genus Bruchus and Trogoderma. These standards can improve the identification ratio of storage pests and better protect the agricultural productions storage, and will also provided us some scientific evidence in trade disputes. 4. The survey of imported plant products from North Korea during 2009- 2011 showed Acanthoscelides obtectus, Trogoderma granarium and other forestal pest has potentially possibility to spread in Jilin Province. According to this survey, more efforts is needed to prevent this issue. 5. 125 storage batches were found to have insects in imported plant and containers from other countries during 2005 – 2014, these insects belong to 24 families, 55 genera and 61 species, 4 of them are storage pests which were Acanthoscelides obtectus, Callosobruchus maculates, Zabrotes subfasciatus and Heterobostrychus aequalis. 6. The antenna sensilla of Trogoderma granarium and Trogoderma variabile were observed under SEM, as a results, there are 10 sensillum type in these two species, the number of sensilla was varied with the segments, Trogoderma granarium had 9 type of sensilla and none Sensilla basiconica Ⅲ was observed; Trogoderma variabile had 8 type of sensilla but Sensilla basiconica Ⅲ and Sensilla basiconica Ⅳ were not observed. There is a significant difference between males and females within the species. The results could guide us in their toxonomic identification with their close-related species, and help us to promote further quarantine works these storage insects.
