The development of renewable energy is an important content and a sustainable way of China’s energy strategy. As an important part of renewable resources, forest biomass has abundant resources in China. In the present paper, the contents are researched on truck-mounted slash bundler, which conform to the aim of "the national forest biomass energy development plan from 2011 to 2020 year", and it is also one of the content of "the national forest machinery development plan (2011-2020)", which is encouraged to develop the forest machinery with collection, bundling and transportation capabilities. This research is based on the innovation fund for the university doctoral students, and it is also one part of the state forestry administration project "948". This paper researches on slash compression test, the design of slash compression chamber, manufactured and tested a prototype of the bundler for the bundling slash parameters.We have chosen the pinus slash, syzygium aromaticum slash and eucalyptus slash as the experimental materials which are common trees in our country. The study presents the compression test of slashes and the theoretical analyses for the first time.Then the relationships between the compression displacement, the compression density and the loading force of the test materials are discovered applying SPSS. The best compression density of slashes and the best pressure under this experimental condition are found out by analyzing the datas of the bulk modulus, which can provide theoretical basis and the parameter(0.24MPa) for the design of the maximum pressure of compression chamber of the truck-mounted slash bundler.This paper presents the methods and the parameters of the design of compression chamber by the results of preliminary test based on the study of the development of similar products abroad and the operating environments. The structure and operation theory of the compression chamber are established. The 3D models of the compression chamber are established applying Pro/E. The motion analysis and interference checking upon the mechanism are accomplished.This paper has analyzed the static and dynamic of the compression chamber and the pressure of hydraulic cylinder applying ADAMS. The maximum pressure is 900kN which is established by the design parameters; the maximum pressures of different parts of compression chamber are 490kN,180kN and 230kN. We have also analysed the relationship between the the cylinder displacement and the angle displacement, the angle velocity and the angle accelerated velocity. The results of analyses show that the angle accelerated velocity of compression components has changed little and has a suddenly start-stop function. The results will provide the design parameters of hydraulic system and the boundary condition of strength, stiffness and the vibration modal parameter in ANSYS.This paper makes analysis of static force and model analysis to the compression chamber applying ANSYS Workbench. The deformation, normal stress, shear stress, elastic strain and strain energy density of compression chamber are analyzed. The alternation regularities between the natural frequencies and modal shapes are established. The former 20-order natural frequency and modal shapes are extracted. The results of model analyses prove that the resonance phenomenon would not occur.This paper presents the structure and the operation theory of truck-mounted slash bundler by the application of modern design methods. The prototype of truck-mounted slash bundler was manufactured and had a field test. The results of the test show that the bundler has achieved the anticipated goals of technically demanding. The bundler operated smoothly and produced 12.8t/h bundling slashes with 36% moisture content. The length of the bundling slashes are 3000~4400mm and the diameters are 600-800mm as will as the weight are 540-850kg. The range of the bundling slashes density and the cylindrical shape are close to the wood logs’. The results of test can verify that the compression models are correct, practical and reliable in the design of slash bundlers.The new design model of forest machinery was explored by using optimization analysis results based on slash compression test. The core technologies and equipment suited to China’s national conditions which are acquired. The establishment of truck-mounted slash bundler will promote the development of the supply chain of forest biomass and the design method will provide the theoretical guidance and technical support for forest residues bundlers.
