Consumption is one of the common TCM(traditional Chinese medicine) clinical syndromes. Its principal symptom is deficit of five internal organs, qi, blood, yin and yang, such as the late stage and chronic phase of the chronic diseases. All chronic debilitating diseases caused by fatique and injure can be classified as consumption. There are many pathogenesis reasons mainly because of viscera, qi, blood, yin and yang deficit.People’s work and life changes with economic development and rapid life rhythm in modern society, these changes accompany the spiritual and emotional influence causing the non-ill or ill people function imbalanced or maladjustment. The unhealed disease becomes consumption, the patients has no idea of their own diseases, or mistreatment and improperly nursing. These factors increase the incidence of consumption diseases. Consumption is now very common, it’s important to promote people’s physical and mental health and elevate life quality by researching the occurrence and treatment of consumption.The past dynasties TCM physicians have accumulated abundant knowledge and treatment experience since Qin-Han, gradually developed and perfected the theory and differentiation. They have established many effective methods of treatment and prescriptions, left tremendous precious documentation. It is valuable to have systematically carry-on and develop their theories and practice experience in the origins of disease, pathogenesis, type differentiation, treatment and recuperation.Based on systematically collected ancient and modern documents in the aspects of names, origins, pathogenesis and treatment of the disease, the issue adopts the method of researching the documents by analyzing, which elaborates the academic characteristic and influence of consumption from Pre-Qin to Republican. It epitomizes the internal connection between academic developing pattern and TCM theory, then summarize and analyze the treatment experience of past dynasties TCM physicians. The issue consists of four parts which are the study of disease names and origins, the true meaning of therapeutic rules and composition of prescription in Zhang Zhongjing’s treatment theory, the therapeutic rules and composition of prescription of past dynasties TCM physicians and the clinical experience from chair dissertation committee member.The first part introduces the definition, overview of names and the study of related disease terms to comprehend the overall situation and development of consumption as well as the investigation of origins and pathogenesis of disease.The second part, also section 4, analyzes the Zhang Zhongjing’s academic origin in consumption. Zhang Zhongjing concluded the pathogenesis of consumption mainly because of a variety of reasons such as deficit of viscera, qi, blood, yin and yang, which is a collective name of many chronic and consumptive syndromes and it exposes the pathogenesis changes of consumption. It fully reflects the concepts of warming the yang, value spleen and kidney in treatment by concentrating reinforce yang with drugs of sweet flavor and warm nature, invigorating spleen and kidney. And also a special treatment slow tonic for a blood nourishing disease.There are 3 sections in the third part separately expounds Jin-Tang, Song-Jing-Yuan, Ming-Qing and modern times in historical order. Section 5 analyzes the points of view of important TCM physicians in each stage, and summarizes their unique view and experience. In each and every historic stage, the issue first outlines the concept of that period, then studies the representative physicians and their works from origins, pathogenesis, diagnosis, differentiating, prescription and nursing to comprehend the practice of Zhang Zhongjing’s theory and related changes in consumption. In section 6, analysis of prescriptions and compatibility of drugs. About section 7, there are some clinic and basic research in those prescriptions by modern TCM physicians on Jin Kui Yao Lue, the issue summarizes their efforts on researching consumption.The fourth part, the last section, is the clinic experience from Prof. WANG Xin Pei, chair dissertation committee member and his opinion on Zhang Zhongjing’s theory.In short, we discover that the treatment opinions are similar to those TCM physicians after Zhang Zhongjing in using warm drugs, the difference is only on certain syndromes, but all agree on Zhang Zhongjing’s rule of treatment,value and invigorating spleen and kidney. The other important thing is to fully understand the origins and pathogenesis and developing pattern of consumption’s nature which is very clinically significant.
