Tourism is a way of life in contemporary society.Tourism language is an important field of language in today’s linguistic life.But so far,neither linguistic academicians nor tourism scholars have made a systematic and in-depth study in the field of tourism language.Language is usually studied as a symbolic system,a communication tool or ability.This paper will elaborate based on the hypothesis that "Language is an important social resource."Language is a kind of resource."Language resource" is a system that can be transformed into other forms in order to achieve certain social values.lt is also the behavior and ability to use language.Tourism language is the very resource that that can be transformed into other forms in order to achieve social values.To analyze a speech act,a full analysis of its behavior must be first made.There are all kinds of understandings about travel behavior. We think that "tourism" is a process in which people, with the help of certain conditions such as leisure time and disposable financial expenditure, leave home voluntarily for another place to stay for some time with the purpose of experiencing local culture.Consequently, tourism language should be analyzed from three aspects.The first is a study of "language resource as a tool",which provides tool conditions for tourists to leave home for another place to stay a certain amount of time.The second is a study of "language resource as an object",which provides object conditions for tourists to experience changes---the basic purpose in travel. The third is a study of "language as a human resource", which provides manpower support for tourism practitioners in tourism industry. Among them,despite the fact that many people have noticed language as a tool resource,there is no systematic research in this respect. And so far nobody has touched upon the fact that language is also a tourism object and therefore should be studied as an object resource in tourism. Finally,the study of language as a human resource has not be talked about in both linguistic and tourism fields.In light of these,we launched a series of specific inspection work,involving a survey of more than1,000people, an interview with hundreds of people,and an analysis of thousands of in-kind.This article is divided into six chapters:The first chapter is an "Introduction", which mainly focuses on current language study situation and puts forward the basic assumptions in our study.The second chapter is about "Language as a Tourism Resource".It argues that language is not just a communication resource or an academic resource.It is also a tourism resource including tool resource,object resource and human resource.The third chapter is "Language:Used as a Tool Resource". This chapter has two key aspects:One is tourism information project selection, namely,tourism advertising language, including an analysis of the language used for "the overall image of the destination", and the language used for "support conditions of the destination".The other is tourism site instructions, namely, tourism interpretation language,including self-directed explanation language and wizards explanation language.As to tool languages, through the literature analysis of their "current research situation",the fieldwork "using the status quo", and on the basis of pragmatic rules, we propose that tourism advertising language and tourism interpretation language as tool resources should be exploited for most effective development of tourism, among which core concept is "strangers assumption ".The forth chapter is "Language: Used as an Object Resources".It discusses why dialects, writings, Chinese language itself can become tourism objects. According to the definition that tourism is an experience with the purpose of undertaking changes, tourism object resources will take on two possibilities:One is to experience object as an aesthetic experience (including dialects based on auditory aesthetics and writings based on visual aesthetics).The other is learning experience object (Chinese as an experience object for "language travel scholars").As to the object resources,through the analysis of resources research, the functions of resources in tourism industry and their applications, we propose the core concept of "diversified experience assumption" for the most effective development of dialects, writings and Chinese language itself.The fifth chapter is "Language:Used as Human Capital".It discusses that language is also a kind of tourism human resources for tourism practitioners. Accordingly, we make an empirical research of the theory of language as a human capital from the perspective of tourism industry, analyzing the competitiveness of tourism language, and the language inputs and earnings of tourism practitioners. Based on the investigation of Hangzhou tourism practitioners’language skills capabilities in Chinese, foreign languages, and dialects, we propose that social language planning and personal language planning should conducted from the perspective of human capital in tourism industry.The sixth chapter makes a summary and put forwards future discussions.In short, this article attempts to use the method of sociolinguistics and the core concept of resources to construct a generally analytical framework of understanding tourism language and effectively solving relevant tourism language problems.The writer, as a scholar in linguistic field, not only explores a new possibility for further studies of linguistics, but also makes contribution to the development of china’s tourism industry and the upgrading of quality tourism life.
