With the development of knowledge economy, creative industry, as a newindustrial form, has been sweeping the globe and affecting the social economy of allthe nations around the world. Creative industrial clusters, being a key carrier ofcreative industrial development, have come to be the core competitiveness inpromoting regional economic development. This dissertation begins with anintroduction to the background of the rise of creative industry. In the light ofMarxism’s basic theories of creative industry and several key representative theoriesin the west, with the creative industrial clusters’ formation mechanism as a logicalstarting point, the dissertation gives a profound analysis of the basic functions, keymodels and the scale effects of the creative clusters. By addressing the developmentof the creative clusters in China’s six regional plates of creative industry and those inthe main cities, as well as the differences in the development of creative industry ineastern and western areas of China, the dissertation illustrates creative clusters’importance in regional economic development. It also suggests some basic ideas forthe development of creative clusters in our country by drawing experience fromwestern developed countries.The dissertation is composed of four parts (apart from introduction and conclusion)with seven chapters. The first part consists of the first three chapters, which define theconnotation and denotation of the creative industry, industrial attributes andcharacteristics. Based on Marxism’s fundamental theories and supported by industrialcluster theories, this part also analyzes the creative industrial clusters’ formationmechanism, their key models, spatial functions and economic effects. Chapter four isthe second part of the dissertation, which firstly compares the differences in and thendraws experience from the development of creative industrial clusters in differentcountries and regions such as U.S.A., the UK, Australia, Japan, Korea, Hong Kongand Taiwan. Part three, as the main body of the dissertation, covers chapter five andchapter six, which focus on the six creative industry regional plates, namely, Bohai Coastal Region, the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta, Western Gold Trigonum,Central Trigonum and Dianhai Area. This part takes the central cities of the sixregional plates as typical examples and analyzes in details the variances and theunbalanced trend in creative industrial development in the eastern areas, central areasand western areas of China. It also illustrates the great contributions made by thespatial layout of China’s creative industrial clusters to the regional economicdevelopment, especially to the promotion of the urban function conversion, industrialupgrading and the city image. Part four includes chapter seven, which points out thatChina, faced with the integration of regional economy and the trend of cultural marketexpansion, has put the development of creative industry at a strategic height and hasissued a series of supporting policies. The dissertation analyzes the opportunities fordifferent regions’ development, plans the regional development route for creativeindustrial clusters and puts forward eight strategies for development.
