The object of the study in this paper is musical drama "Laborintus II" composed by Berio. By analyzing from four aspects including the literature text, the structure of music, the technical feature of new vocalism and the structure of the sound, the paper comes into the conclusion about the important features of new vocalism works by Berio as below:Berio intended to deconstruct the integrity of representation structure in the work to realize the inner close connection in net structure. Based on the integrity thinking, Berio combined music, vocalism and literature into musical drama which features in the continuous and systematic use of the technique of new vocalism.This paper is composed of five chapters. The former four chapters are focused on the analysis of "Laborintus II" and the final chapter is a summing-up based on the analysis of new vocalism in the musical works by Berio.The first chapter analyzes the literature text of "Laborintus II". According to the research of the origin and the content of the text, the structure of the text and the enlightenment the text reflecting to music. Based on the full understanding of the aim and content of the works, this chapter deeps the research into the revealing of the structure and shows how the text reflects the music as well as the relationship between them.The second chapter explores the musical structure of "Laborintus II". According to the dominant structure of the music this chapter firstly divides the work into several basic sections and points out the principle based on its form. Then this chapter states in details about the main power from the structure——how the domain motivation as a clue reveals the characteristic of the centripetal force in the structure. And this chapter analyzes the collage as a form in the musical structure. Finally in this chapter summarizes the characteristic of "openness","net-form" and the logical thinking structure in its musical structure.The third chapter is concerned with the characteristic of new vocalism in "Laborintus II". From the following aspects from the arrangement of vocal, the feature of vocal, the relationship of vocal and instruments, this chapter reveals how Berio manages the technique of new vocalism and the effective characteristics in his creation. The fourth chapter is focused on the feature of the sound structure in "Laborintus Ⅱ". By the analysis of the technical issues in composing such as the pitch organization, the rhythm feature and Polyphony as well as the thinking methods this chapter reveals the dramatical performance feature of the instruments sounds.The final chapter concludes the typical feature of vocalism related to "Laborintus Ⅱ" by Berio:This chapter analyzes the common features from three aspects including literature text, the structure and arrangement as well as the characteristic of sound. This common features reveal how Berio shows his overall structure of thinking in his works. His methodology includes "counterpoint" of multi literature text and Polystylism musical text, and the musical structure influence by modern literature, as well as new vocalism being a clue in the sound structure of this kind of works. This chapter also talks about more related works including "Thema","Visage","Circles" and "O King", etc.The conclusion summarizes the artistic feature of "Laborintus Ⅱ" formed from the combination of music, vocalism and literature into comprehensive dramatical performances.
