Off-broadway's musical "I Love You," full name,"I Love You,You're Perfect,Now Change," premiered in 1996 and was composed by Jimmy Roberts and book and lyrics by Joe Dipietro.Joel Bishoff, the show's premiere director,co-wrote the story with the screenwriter, and some of the scenes are directly from the director's side of the story. The play presents these scenes close to life in a humorous and ironic way.The biggest creative feature of this play is that there is no coherent plot and characters running through the whole play.Basically, each play can exist independently of each other, and watching each play alone is a complete story. This paper aims to analyze the dramatic actions of each character in I love you,as well as how music participates in the drama and the characteristics of the whole drama structure. This paper is divided into four chapters to elaborate, the first chapter mainly from the musical "I love you" composer, screenwriter, plot introduction, creative characteristics, play title interpretation,as well as the characteristics of off-broadway musical, etc.,its basic introductions; The second chapter analyzes the dramatic actions of the characters in each scene and expresses the dramatic actions of the characters in each scene with abstract schema. The third chapter analyzes the role of music in each play from the perspective of music's participation in the process of the play.In the fourth chapter, the relationship between the overall structure of the play is viewed from a macro perspective, which proves that each play of the play is independent but inseparable. This paper focuses on the two most important elements in the music play: drama and music, dissecting the music-drama structure of the play, and finally combining music with drama to grasp the overall structural characteristics of the play.
