Abstract/Summary:
Throughout the evolvement of art both home and abroad in the20th century, the art forms with the character of popularity, folkishness and dailiness have become the mainstream gradually. In the process, each country has its own way of transition and presentation. The variation between art and mass is related to the themes of different phases of history in China, which remains unchanged for three thousand years in the large situation. Hong Yiran’s artistic thought, the popular aesthetic theory and thought of public participation in different periods are typically related to the major proposition such as "enlightenment and salvation","power discourse and the public discourse""democratization and pluralism"Hong Yiran was affected by the New Culture Movement, John Dewey’s ideas and the Proletariat Art in his early years. In the process of learning Western painting in Hangzhou National College of Arts, his perspective gradually turned to the exploration of art’s theory. Later.he gradually turned to fine art criticism during the War of Resistance Against Japan and to new aesthetic discussion with a distinctive popularization of art theory. With the new trend in the1980s, Hong Yiran began to study public art’s aesthetics from popular perspective. His public aesthetic theory plays an important role in paving the way for the construction of contemporary design aesthetics. His studies on material form (including natural and artificial morphological form) provide an important idea to explore the evolution of Chinese design aesthetic theory in the20th century. Meanwhile. Hong learned the art from life and practical perspective, explored theoretical issues which provide the nourishment of history.Hong advocates the popularization of art creation. He discusses the core issues of the nature of art based on life consciousness. From the perspective of the nationalization of western painting and the modernization of painting in China, his art theory about creation links with the theoretical perspective of "China" and "internationalization". John Dewey’s educational thinking affects Hong Yiran. He promotes public education and universal aesthetic art. He believes that art is education, education is life. In the perspective of art accepted. Hong decided to routinely collect folk language materials and research public art aesthetic habits. His "public aesthetic" theory has been accepted by the general public and leads to a wide range of impacts. He is the "pioneer of mass aesthetics" in the aesthetic circles. His mass aesthetic theory contains the nature of the nexus:On the one hand, it is a continuation of the popularization of literature about enlightenment and salvation in the20th century in China; On the other hand, it is a transition of public life aesthetics and mass culture theorv. To some extent, it is also the harbinger of the contemporary consumer art aesthetics. Hong decided to convey these ideas by the form of the image works, and to give a high degree of attention to the study of art history. The form that combines both history and theory, theory and practice reflects the richness of his academic research. In short. Hong Yiran advocates "from art to the public", and improve the public aesthetics. In the two-way interaction between art and the public, eliminate the differences between the art of the elite and of the mass, so as to realize the democratization process of artistic freedom and equality. There are two parts about" up "and "down" in this thesis. The former emphasizes on history of art and aesthetics, the latter emphasizes on the interpretation of the theory of art. This paper specifically focuses on the analysis based first-hand literature material and unpublished drafts. The author attempts to integrate art theory system of Hong Yiran, and then explores the occurrence and development of Chinese aesthetic theory of popular art and public art.
