The research object of this dissertation is native literati’s creation of Jiangdong regions in the Southern Dynasties. The so-called "Jiangdong", namely the regions in the east of the Yangtze river downstream, including Zhejiang province, southern areas of Jiangsu province and Anhui province, where Wu dialect is the universal language. It also includes Nanjing which is the capital of the Six Dynasties. Southern dynasties. The native literati refers to those people who had lived in Jiangdong area from generation to generation since Eastern Han dynasty, the scope of most activities throughout their lives in this regions, and have poetry, cifu or corpus or with literary talent according to historical records. According to the statistics, there are109Jiangdong native literati in the Southern Dynasties, which have633poems,47cifu (13other works only have title) and473practical writings.After the war during the Yongjia period, the nobles in the zhongyuan areas fled to Jiangdong.The establishment of the Eastern Jin dynasty regime opened the prelude to the partition of the north and the south in China. Due to political, geographical reasons, the regional tendency of literature had become evident. Throughout the literature development conditions of different areas in the Southern Dynasties, Jiangdong is the most prosperous regions. However, before the Southern Dynasties, the number of Jiangdong native literati is small; the development of local literature is relatively slow and their works only have limited impact. The pre-Qin periods were still at gestation and initial stage. Since the Wei and Jin dynasties, with the establishment of DongWu regime and the influence of south-crossing during the Yongjia period, Jiangdong regions ushered in the rare development opportunity, in which appeared some famous literati such as Lu Ji, Lu Yun, Zhang Han and so on. In the Jin and Song dynasties, The Yuefu folk songs with Jiangdong local characteristics quietly rose and became prosperous. Then Jiangdong native literary ushered in the new period during the Southern Dynasties.This dissertation take the literary works of Jiangdong native literati as the center, the main part of which is composed of five chapters:the first and the second chapters is comprehensive survey to Jiangdong native literati which research on the relationship between the literati and geographical environment, politic, economy, academy, religious, and then briefly describe the spread of their works and corpus. The two chapters belong to the external research on literature.Works of Jiangdong native literati are the focus of research in the third, the fourth and the fifth chapters. The third chapter explore the poems which select Yuefu, object-chanting, conversation, tourism or banquet, yonghuai, and journey as the research object, respectively analysis the content, style or structure, expression and artistic features. The fourth chapter discusses on the cifu of native literati that summarizes the overall condition and the background of the creation, investigates their features on the theme, function, format and language. The fifth chapter study on the practical writings of Jiangdong native literati which chooses public documents, letters, preamble, thesis, singing and praising writings, admonition, epitaph and mourning funeral oration as investigation objects, then divides the theme type, reveals the stylistic or function, and explores the writing skills or artistic features. The three chapters belong to internal research on literature.Finally, we will make a relatively objective evaluation on the influence of the Jiangdong native literati and their works, and then determine their status in the history of Chinese literature.
