"Historical Transformation" From "Classic-style Writing "to "Market Writing"

Chinese contemporary literature was quickly involved in the economic tide ofmarket in1993. From the publication of Jia Pingao’s Deserted City and thephenomenon of “Deserted City” to1990, the whole literary world came out with adifferent road. Chinese contemporary literature gave up the past “classic” writing, andgradually embarked on a “market-oriented” writing, whose trend extendedcontinuously. In the21th century, Chinese contemporary literature has fully come intothe market.Based on the changes of literary media, this paper interprets the literaryphenomenon during the first ten years in the21th century, perspective. Taking themost representative and narrative style--the novel in this period as an example andmaking a statistical analysis of the collection and collation of more than17000worksfrom Chinese Contemporary Novel Bibliography in2000-2010, the paper focuses onthe development of contemporary literature to the twenty-first Century, especially themode of production, consumption patterns of communication and its trend in the pastten years compared with the changes of literature existence occurred in the twentiethcentury, and manages to make an objective and fair judgment on Chinese literaturephenomenon for nearly ten years in the new century, which will provide a referencefor the future academic research.My paper is divided into five parts. According to the analysis of the novel’scurrent situation in the first decade of the new century, I think literature has been inthe twenty-first century, and it has been out of the process from “classic writing” to“market-oriented writing”, which is a historical transition.I.“The historical premise” of “the New-10-year” literature development.The paper describes the beginning of new century literature generate historicalcultural background, and social environment. Mainly introduces and analyzes somechanges appeared in late nineteen nineties, which is different from the literature of thenew period. First, reviewing the literature has been at the center of social situation since twentieth Century, analysing the literature “marginalization” phenomenon innineteen nineties began in the middle of the,“creating novels famously”, and“personal writing”.The situation of literature development in the late90’s shows thatthe literature has broken away from the original “tracks” to a “market-oriented” road.II. The changes of “the New-10-year” novel.From the point of view of the first decade in new century novel statistical data,Combined with the general situation of the development of contemporary literature,summed up the development of literature to this period and four important changes inthe literature which is different from the past. After the statistics of the ChineseContemporary Novel Bibliography in2000-2010, the writer thinks that there are manymain changes in novel, the first is the change of quantity, according to incompletestatistics, during the ten years, the number of novels is17363, which is the highestpeak in the history of Chinese literature. The second is the change of theme, the worksare more realistic, and have more entertainment features. The content of the novel haschanged from grand narrative to the public subject to the ego, individual theme trend,especially increased the fantasy, mystery kind of pure entertainment theme. The thirdis the change of writing group. The period of modern literature history is the one ofthe most diverse groups in the historical period. Moreover, the age of the authors turnto young, high school students begin to write. The fourth is the change of the textforms which under the influence of a more diversified media. With the developmentof Digital Electronic Science and Technology, and the emergence of new media.During this period, all kinds of the colorful text forms appear, such as fiction, novels,TV movie photography, network novel, mobile phone novel or SMS novel, themorphology of the novel and so on.III. The internal causes of “the New-10-year” novel: the transmutation and adaptationof literature ideas.The paper Analyzes the causes of the development and changes from the literaryaspects in the first decade of the new century. The literary conception of “the truthclarified by the article” from the ancient time of China reflects the strong mainstreamof political awareness and utilitarian nature. The literary conception has a new changethat the plebification, trivialization and entertainment are more distinctive from thelate1990s to the first decade of new century. Starting from the bibliography ofaward-winning novel in several internal major literary prizes over the past decade, thispaper makes a thorough inquiry in gradual acceptance, even merge of the market-oriented literary of new century to the conception of traditional literature fromthe new centuty.IV. The external causes of “the New-10-year” novel: the transformation anddiversification of production mode.In the condition of the gradual progress of science and technology, the emergenceand changes in various new media assist the diversification of literary productionmechanism at the beginning of new century. Combined with the statistical data,there are four aspects of changes analyzing the external factors of transformation anddiversification of novels in the new century. First, the transmutation of media modeproduces the diversification of literary existing form. Secondly, the media changespromote the marketization and industrialization of the literature. Thirdly, the newmedia brings the generalization of principal part in creation. Fourthly, theimprovement of citizen’s diathesis and “fast-food consumption” bring the changes inreading. The political and ideological factors of the new century novels havegradually increased and the literary market-oriented features have significantlydeclined. Meanwhile, the participation of the publishers, distributors and even readersin the literary works even more than that of the writers.V. The reflection on “the New-10-year” novels and the development of the newcentury literature.The continuous adaptation states of various changes and literary conceptions ofnovels around the new century make us feel the rapid development of the new centuryliterature. However, there are still many problems leading to the thorough reflection,such as the repetition of subject matter and content by reason of stylization, the piracy,the theft of the famous signature abusively, and the regional unbalance in novel’sdevelopment etc.. With an eye to the literature in the new century, novels will gainmore ideal development with the improvements of cultural market supervision systemwhich is controlled by the government, the increasement of legal consciousness fromevery class in the society and the progress of technology and management methods.The classic literature works whose themes are close to the ordinary people’s daily life,to be more plebificational will be the direction of literatural development in the newcentury.
