On December31st,2010, after more than30years fighting with the disease, Shi Tiesheng suddenly passed away. The writer, who described himself’professional in disease, and amateur in writing,’has left us with rich literary heritage and spiritual treasure. Setting out from the era sickness of’Cultural Revolution’and the physical hurt of’Deformity’, he set on the path seeking for’Religious Spirit,’and further surpass’Religious Spirit’to realize the aesthetic transcendence. This paper take the three key words, night of writing, religious spirit and aesthetic ideology, as the core to tease the road of writing and surpassing of Shi Tiesheng. This paper is divided into three chapters.The first chapter is’Cultural Revolution’and’Deformity’, which is Shi Tiesheng’s’night of writing.’The dissimilation of human and the sudden disease brought to Shi the darkness of life, and he sought for death in order to release for a time. However, at the same time, he found that incompleteness is the reality which the human cannot escape. He got rid of the shadow of death and found the:reason for living on-writing.’Night of writing’is the most important creative concept of Shi Tiesheng. He saw the’night of writing’as the moment he met with his own soul, and he believed that the ultimate goal of writing is to realize the pursuit of truth, kindness and beauty in life. In the process of seeking for meaning of life, value of existence and result of death, Shi Tiesheng constructed’religious spirit’which is of his own characteristic.The second chapter is the meeting of’night of writing’and’religious spirit.’The ’religious spirit’of Shi Tiesheng is different from other general religion, much less is it equal to superstition. He defined his’religious spirit’, and combined it firmly with his’night of writing.’Shi Tiesheng took original sin and suffering as the basic survival dilemma of people and believed that they are the need of human existence, while writing can surpass dilemma. In the day, he establishes a redemption with the love philosophy of Christ, and believes that people should not only’love their neighbors,’but also’love the sinner’and’love destiny.’He analyzed the similarities and differences of love and sex, and identified the hardship of ideal. At night, he turns to the Buddha and demonstrates the impossibility of death and unreliability of ego.The third chapter is the aesthetic transcendence of’religious spirit’, which is the ’beauty of life.’Shi Tiesheng regarded literature,’religious spirit’and beauty as three progressive levels. In’night of writing,’he eventually built the aesthetic ideal which takes religious surpass as the core, and realizing the transition from road of suffering to road of aesthetic. The aesthetic ideology of Shi Tiesheng mainly includes three aspects:beauty in subjectivity, beauty in tragedy and beauty in process. At the same time, he had an aesthetic sense of his own life experience. And finally, death became a wonderful process. Shi Tiesheng paid attention to the content and ideological connotation, and at the same time remembered the formal characteristic of literature, transmitting his thoughts and inspirations with’defamiliarized’language, deformation and structure. Shi Tiesheng is a rare writer in China’s contemporary literary world who conducted thinking about problems such as soul, spirit, religion and aesthetics. He pointed out a surpassing path which is full of suffering but also hopeful to people. This path will surely have sufferings and worries, but beauty will be resident and spirit will be joyful forever.
