Research On The Development Of The Competitiveness Of Shanghai Film Industry

This doctoral dissertation is divided into four parts. The first part is an introduction about the analysis on the background and current situation of the development of the theory of film industry competitiveness and the development of Shanghai movie industry competitiveness. The discussion is about the necessity of this topic.The second part analyses the main factors to determine the movie industry competitiveness. After reviewing the domestic and foreign academic views about the decision factors of the industrial competitiveness and the national (regional) cultural industry competitiveness, first of all, the article conduct a comprehensive assessment of Michael Potter’s "Diamond Model" theory, Florida’s creative class theory, Martel’s USA cultural competitive advantage theory, Allen J.Scott’s Hollywood film industry development theory, then it points out the theoretical significance and defects of all the theory above; secondly, the article analyses all the influence factors on the film industrial competitiveness and pointed out that the special rule of the development of film industry competitiveness; thirdly, this paper raise six determinate factors of the state (region) movie industry competitiveness, namely "movie industry competitiveness determinant model":the movie creative class and their growth environment; technology, capital and other resources; international/domestic/regional film market demand; industry competition and industry cluster; the support of related industries;government policy and social forces; and the relationship between these factors.The third part:to analyses how the critical six factors influence the development of movie industry competitiveness and to take Shanghai film industry as a actual case. To combine the development of film industry in Shanghai, Beijing, Los Angeles and other regions, this article respectively study the role and performance of such six factors in the development of Shanghai film industry, and to explore the process of how they affected the competitiveness of Shanghai movie industry. This part has more unique insights and focus on the special rules of the growth environment of Chinese film creative class, the system problem of the growth of Chinese film enterprise, the special competition of film industry, the distinguishing feature and the contribution of Shanghai film market demand, how to locate the government role to be invisible but ubiquitous, how to play the tremendous but invisible role of market and so on,. The discussion not only discovered the special law of the development of film industryial competitiveness,but also combined with the particular Chinese conditions.The fourth part:theoretical summary on the development of the competitiveness of Shanghai film industry. The paper points out that the administrative system, policy, monopoly, unrespect on the creativity are the main obstacle to the competitiveness of the Shanghai film industry. To develop Shanghai film industry competitiveness, the establishment of Shanghai territorial sensor system; the construction of multiple competitive industry; to boost the development of the platform of Shanghai film industry with the state-owned resources; To promote all the power of the cooperations of enterprise, market, government, society, education and scientific research are the key jobs.
