Research On The Logic Thought And Methodology In The Orthodox Classic Of Huangdi

As the fountainhead of TCM theories, the theoretical system of The Orthodox Classic of Huangdi includes not only the basic theories of Qi, Yin&Yang, Five Elements, but also the TCM doctrines as Viscera Picture, Meridian System, Etiology, Syndrome and Pathogenesis of Diseases, Diagnostic Methods, Therapeutic Principles, Health Maintenance, Five Movements and Six Climates, etc., all of which lay the basic theory framework of TCM. Meanwhile, the theoretical framework is rich in philosophical, cultural, and logical ideas and methods.The argument of this thesis is conceived under the following ideological background. The introduction of modern western science has brought about a wide range of doubts and denunciations on the issues of Chinese logic, philosophy, especially the traditional theories of TCM. In response to such a situation, a lot of research work has been down from different perspectives such as philosophy, culture, thinking process, etc. to study TCM theories and its classics, with the expectation to tap into the scientific method of its internal mechanism and its ideological essence, to demystify why, even through such a long history, the theories and classics can still keep TCM full of vitality. The focus is put on the exploration of the scientific values of TCM theories.In this thesis, the author tries to examine, classify and summarize the logical ideas and methods of the construction theory of The Orthodox Classic of Huangdi, from the perspective of Chinese logic history, by using the integrated methods of "mutual mapping theory between the eastern and western cultures" and the "intra penetration and contemplation features of traditional Chinese culture". The construction of the basic theories and doctrines of The Orthodox Classic of Huangdi is based on the thoughts of integration, dialectic relations, and orientation analogy, which embodies rich logical thoughts, deeply influenced by ancient Chinese ideology and culture. As for the logic methods used in modern practice, analogy was also the main and dominant inference method used in ancient China. Besides, multi inference and argumentation methods such as comparison, induction, deduction, analysis and synthesis are tied together, forming its logic and methodology system with the co-existence and integration of both dialectical and logical thinking. Later generations of TCM physicians such as Zhang Zhongjing, Zhang Jiebin, Li Shizhen, through inheritance and innovation, contributed a lot to the evolution of TCM theories, continuously facilitating the development and modification of TCM theories.The tremendous tension of thinking and theoretical connotation of The Orthodox Classic of Huangdi is deeply rooted in the fertile soil of the "Contention of Diverse Thinking Campaign" during the pre-Qin period, breeding the early buds of systematology, cybernetics, psychosomatic medicine, social medicine, etc., incarnating the exploration of the law of life health, containing ancient Chinese people’s cognition and reflection on the relationships between man and nature, man and society, especially the thinking mode and wisdom of the ancient Chinese people.
