The range of empress’s clan was stable, and its character was different from theconsort clan of central power. The empress’s clan was the families that intermarrywith imperial kinsmen in the Liao Dynasty and have empresses. So empress’s clanplayed an important role in the Liao Dynasty.There are six chapters in the thesis. The first chapter is introduction. It mainlyintroduces research status quo, research significance, research difficulties andinnovation. There are five chapters in the straight matter. The first chapter studies thehistorical origin and evolution of empress’s clan. In fact, there was “empress’s clan”in the time of DaHe(大贺) and YaoNian(遥辇). As the appearing of Liao dynasty,ShuLvPing(述律平) became the first empress, the empress’s clan in Liao Dynastyappeared. The empress’s clan finally included BaL(i拔里), YiShiY(i乙室已) andthe other department of GuoJiu(国舅) after several reforms. The political forces ofthe empress’s clan experienced the highlight, prosperity, decline. The second chaptermainly studies the empresses and their families. There were twenty two empresses inthe Liao Dynasty,and they all came from the empress’s clanexcept ZhenSh(i甄氏).The families of empresses in the Liao Dynasty could be divided into five families.They were the family of empress of JianXian(简献) and XuanJian(宣简), thefamily of empress of ChunQin(淳'), QinAi('哀), RenYi(仁懿), XuanYi(宣懿), HuiFei(惠妃), ZhenShun(贞顺), the family of empress ofJingAn(靖安), the family of empress of RouZhen(柔贞), the family of empress of RuiZhi(睿智), RenDe(仁德), FeiHou(废后), TianZuo(天祚). The third chapter talksabout the political prerogative of the empress’s clan. They mainly included stablemarriage right, to be officials, mastering army. The four chapter studies therelationship between the imperial kinsmen and the empress’s clan. The five chapterdiscusses the causes and historical significance of the politics of the empress’s clan.There were three reasons for the appearing of empress’s clan in Liao Dynasty. The tradition of ruling coalition in the inner Asia, the special background of theestablishment of the Liao Dynasty, the promotion of members of empress’s clan.There were two historical functions which were positive and negative existing in thethree stages of development.
