Socialism Drama: Construction Of Models And Missing Of Humanities

Socialism drama is an important form of the contemporary Chinese theatre, which have a special status in contemporary social. Research the socialism drama under the standard of modernity, that the complex relationship between different models and the modernity development of theatre is the focus. The issues involved: what is the socialism drama? What are the different models of socialism drama? How about the relationship between each model? What are the modernity and anti-modernity characters of each model? How about the impacts on the twenty century theatre? To discuses those problems insisted a modernity-cultural narrative logic, have an openly and deeply speech situation. To exam the socialism drama on overall vision, strive to understand the inner spirit of narrative strategies and mechanisms, and insight into the values and sense system.The following are the main approach and innovation of this paper:First, the author adopts a developmental & dialectical approach to investigate the construction process of socialism drama models in 1949-1966, including 1949-1957,1957-1962 and 1962-1966 three stages, divided into five models:eulogistic, defense, heroism, utopia, opposing and preventing revisionism. That changed the research state of socialism drama which on one single, and made it to be diverse and complex. Second, review the different models in the course of drama modernization in the twentieth century, explore the characteristics on subjects, characters, thoughts, aesthetic forms and humanities of each model, especially the modernity and anti-modernity aspects on the value position of modernity, and strive to analysis the complex contents of socialism drama comprehensively and multi-angled. Third, reposition the socialism drama in the process of drama development from a long period angle, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of it diachronically and synchronically, especially the influences on Chinese drama of its value system and logic system after the seventeen years period.Basing on the value position held by the drama of modernity, this paper can be divided into eight parts, the chapter Ⅰ and chapter Ⅶ are macro, global certainty, and the five chapters from chapter Ⅱ to chapter VI have respectively analysis. The part, Introduction, defined the socialism drama, carded the research status of this field, cleared the significance and theoretical innovation of this topic. Chapter I, concluded the stage of development and different models of socialism drama in a whole vision. The chapters are not isolated in that there is a fuzziness of inherent correlation and mutual dependence among them.The five chapters from chapter Ⅱ to chapter VI are elaborated on each model, the analysis of them are based on the consciousness of problem that to seize the main elements of each model, discover the modernity and anti-modernity connotations. Chapters Ⅱ, mainly discusses the construction of eulogistic model and the modernity or lack of modernity from the angles of eulogistic contents, critical spirit and individual status. The modernity of eulogistic model is the most obvious in the socialism drama. Chapter Ⅲ, mainly discusses the construction of defense model from the angles of people and fight scene, the modernity is that raising the patriotism, the anti-modernity are un-respect on the history and weakened the humanity in some extent. Chapter IV, mainly discusses the construction of heroism model from the angles of the people in the war and the construction of the history of war. The modernity shows on the fighting spirit and national spirit, and that avoid the cruelty of war and the inner conflict of human are the defects of it, resulted that the deify of hero and poverty content of war. Chapter V, mainly discusses the construction of utopia model from the angles of country’s modernization, material modernization and cultural modernization, especially envisaging the country’s future. Confirmed the way of country’s modernization and the construction passion of people are the positive part of it, but the more anti-modernity contents include suppressing the modernization of human and thoughts. Chapter VI, mainly discusses the construction of opposing and preventing revisionism drama from the angles of daily life, material desires and characters of new person, that emphasizing class struggle, ignoring human value and dignity, denying the legitimate rights and inner spirit of human, made the most anti-modernity characters of it.Chapter VII, analysis the values and logic characters of the different models of socialism drama from a whole perspective, indicates that the general development of modernity and anti-modernity, and the characteristics of each other, observes the significance and location in the process of modernization in twentieth century, discusses the impact of socialism drama on the later of Chinese drama.
